rebecca had called rain into her office for a meeting following the match. rain had flashbacks to her first day when she was actually scared of the woman. now, now she was one of her best friends.

"as you know, ted's-"

she held up a hand, "don't finish the sentence. i can't deal with it right now."

rebecca nodded, silently agreeing, "well, that's part of the reason i want to have this meeting."

"am i being fired?" rain exclaimed.

rebecca waved her hands in a 'no' signal, "no, no, no, you're being promoted."

"promoted?"

"if you want."

"but i'm already head of pr? where can i go from there?" she questioned.

she smiled, pulling out a folder and sliding it across the table towards her. rain opened it, flicking through the paper.

she frowned, "it just says afc richmond women's team. the rest is blank paper."

"i did it for dramatics. i want you to run the women's team," she explained.

rain's eyes widened. she shut the folder, sliding it back towards rebecca, "i'm sorry, i think i just hallucinated, did you just ask me, a pr and social media personality to run an entire team? like one that could play the super league and the women's fa cup and have players scouted for the lionesses? that kind of team?"

"yes."

"are you fucking dumb?"

"excuse me?"

"i can't run an entire club. i can't coach, i can't recruit a team, i can't-"

rebecca placed a hand across her desk, "calm down, rain. i don't want you to coach. i want you to be the director of football operations for the women's team. that's my fault for wording it wrong. apologies."

rain visibly calmed, "oh. so, higgins' job but for the women's team?"

"yes, with some extras. you'd oversee training, without being completely responsible, just to make sure everything runs smoothly as we transition into a new age and offer advice where needed."

"oh. okay. cool. yeah. i'm totally calm right now. what about the pr? where would the women's team train?"

"we're putting up temporary housing and will be building the women's team their own stadium in the meantime. keeley and i have been creating this in secret, as a surprise for you and everyone but mainly you."

rain stared at rebecca, "what?"

she smiled, "i- we had the idea and both thought of you in that role. we wanted it to be a surprise."
