The little fox stubbornly occupied the space Yan Zhao had left for Bi Lan, and Bi Lan couldn't really argue with a fox.
When it came to priorities, it seemed that in Yan Zhao's mind, a friend was far less important than this little fox.
Bi Lan thought to herself, I might not even qualify as Junior Sister Yan's friend.
Yan Zhao rolled into the bed and didn't open her eyes again, so she wouldn't be in a position to "seek justice" for Bi Lan.
Bi Lan looked at the little fox sprawled comfortably and reached out to pat its head.
The little fox wasn't fond of being petted and turned its head away, snuggling closer to Yan Zhao.
"What a mischievous little thing," Bi Lan remarked, then withdrew her hand.
She turned and sat down on a cushion by a low table, settling into a meditation posture to absorb energy.
Once Bi Lan was in meditation, the little fox subtly lifted its eyelids and glanced at her. Seeing that Bi Lan was quietly starting her cultivation, it closed its eyes again and continued to sleep without a hint of guilt.
Yan Zhao was in deep sleep, tossing and turning during the night. Her hand reached out and touched the fluffy little fox, pulling it into her embrace instinctively.
As if that wasn't enough, after a while, she turned her head and rested it on the fox.
She seemed to be dreaming of some delicious food, occasionally clicking her tongue, licking her lips, and drooling, which ended up on the fox.
The little fox: "......"
It was clearly annoyed and speechless.
Fortunately, the night was only a few hours long, and it would soon be over.
Daybreak came, bringing with it another clear, blue sky. Morning light filtered through the clouds, shining through the window and into the small room of the inn.
By mid-morning, Bi Lan opened her eyes.
She stood up and glanced at Yan Zhao and the little fox sleeping together on the bed, then quietly opened the door and stepped out.
Yan Zhao remained completely unaware, but the little fox's ears twitched at the sound of the door.
When the door closed, the little fox opened its eyes, wriggled out from Yan Zhao's embrace, and yawned widely.
Its back was damp from Yan Zhao's saliva, causing a large wet patch the size of a fist.
The little fox shook its fur, but the wet patch wouldn't shake off.
Helpless, it cast a cleansing spell on itself. Its fur fluffed up again, and it was satisfied.
After about the time it takes to burn an incense stick, light footsteps were heard outside the door. Judging by the rhythm, it was likely Bi Lan returning.
Soon, the door opened.
Bi Lan came in holding a food tray, which contained spiritual food provided by the inn for monks who had not yet broken their fast.
The little fox eyed the food warily, realizing Bi Lan had other intentions for Yan Zhao.
The spiritual food on the tray emitted a fragrant aroma. Yan Zhao's nostrils flared, and she immediately woke up.
She turned over and saw Bi Lan setting the food tray down.
Bi Lan noticed the movement and saw Yan Zhao staring hungrily at the tray of food, like a dog that had never been fed.
