Not only was the shadow stunned, but Ren Qingyue was also extremely surprised. However, she instinctively seized a fleeting chance and counterattacked.
When the shadow landed with a heavy thud, her heart raced as if it might leap from her throat. In her moment of desperation, she had changed her move without any confidence, yet somehow, she had managed to slay the figure. It was truly just luck.
Anxious thoughts raced through her mind as she glanced at Yan Zhao. Yan Zhao waved the dry branch again, astonished by her own actions. That last strike felt like divine intervention, an overwhelming clarity as if she understood the trajectory of everything in that fleeting moment. But now, trying to recapture that feeling, she could no longer grasp it.
Seeing Yan Zhao's clear expression, devoid of any trace of malevolent energy, Ren Qingyue let out a sigh of relief. But at the same time, she felt a deep sense of astonishment. Yan Zhao's talent in swordsmanship exceeded her expectations by far.
Truly, she was the offspring of the world's greatest sword cultivator. With such insight, if Yan Zhao continued to grow, that joking remark about "racing through the three realms" might not be impossible after all.
However, now was not the time for such reflections, as a threatening aura was rapidly closing in.
Ren Qingyue recalled the Demon-Banishing Sword, swiftly returned to Yan Zhao's side, and lifted her up. "Follow me!" she urged Chen Elder.
Without hesitation, Elder Chen quickly followed Ren Qingyue. Yan Zhao felt herself being carried along, the scenery around her blurring past. She didn't struggle but relaxed her body to make it easier for her sister to carry her.
The three of them dashed forward, with those threatening presences hot on their heels. Fortunately, Mist Demon Gorge was easy to get lost in. Though Ren Qingyue had grown up in the human realm, she still possessed the instincts of the fox clan. Using the terrain to their advantage, they managed to create some distance, but they still hadn't completely shaken off their pursuers.
The shadows relentlessly pursued them, and what should have taken several months was forced down to half the time.
However, the spiritual energy in Mist Demon Gorge was chaotic, and with Elder Chen still injured, it was clear he was nearing his limit.
Ahead, the miasma briefly parted to reveal a deep chasm. Ren Qingyue's eyes brightened; they had finally arrived!
She communicated through her consciousness, instructing Elder Chen, "Elder, jump down."
Elder Chen nodded to show he understood. He remembered this route from when they had come.
As the cliff became clearer, Ren Qingyue leapt down with Yan Zhao. The thick fog rolled below, and the mist parted slightly due to the airflow, revealing the scene beneath.
Without pausing, Ren Qingyue accelerated forward.
After about half an hour, they came upon a puddle, and the sound of their footsteps grew louder. Ren Qingyue urged, "Get into the water quickly; don't delay!"
She tightened her hold around Yan Zhao's waist and whispered, "Ah Zhao, hold your breath!"
Yan Zhao followed her instructions, feeling her body sink as the cold water rose above her mouth and nose.
The sensation of being submerged didn't last long, and soon after, they surfaced on the other side.
This place felt familiar; it was where she had come last time to support the Fox Emperor and had discovered the cave of Tushan Yu.
