Improper thoughts.

The little fox covered its face.

Most of the idioms Yan Zhao knew, eight or nine out of ten, were taught by her. But now, it seemed that there was still a long way to go.

Feng Jin was also stunned.

The speaker had no intention, but the listener had a keen mind. Yan Zhao's choice of words seemed to have seen through her thoughts, causing an inexplicable wave of panic to rise within Feng Jin.

Could it be that Yan Zhao already knew the little fox was actually her senior sister?

Feng Jin was so nervous her palms began to sweat, but she couldn't ask Yan Zhao for confirmation. Doing so would expose her true thoughts on the spot.

"I didn't," Feng Jin instinctively denied, glancing again at the little fox in Yan Zhao's arms. "I was just talking to it."

Yan Zhao curled her lips. "You better not have."

After saying that, she turned around and pushed open the door, one foot already inside, but still added, "If you're so idle, go get your own little fox to raise. Stop coveting someone else's."

Feng Jin: "..."

Although Yan Zhao's attitude was harsh, Feng Jin quietly breathed a sigh of relief.

It seemed Yan Zhao didn't know that the fox was actually her senior sister.

The door closed in front of her. Feng Jin took one last look at the tightly shut door before turning and leaving.

Inside the room, Yan Zhao placed the little fox back on the bed and unhappily patted its head. "How many times have I told you not to run around? There are a lot of bad people out there!"

The little fox's tail swayed from side to side, its eyes gleaming as it looked at Yan Zhao.

It had already gotten used to, and even enjoyed, Yan Zhao's care and concern for it.

Although Yan Zhao's tone wasn't kind, she didn't really do anything to the fox, just poking its little nose with force. "Don't take it lightly, you're still not fully healed."

Her fingers touched its damp nose, and the little fox took the chance to stick out its tongue and lick Yan Zhao's fingers.

"Naughty." Yan Zhao withdrew her hand. "Don't think you can just charm your way out of this."

The little fox raised its head, its eyes sparkling brightly.

Yan Zhao: "..."

No matter how angry she was, she couldn't stay mad.

"I give up." Yan Zhao sighed dramatically, though the delight in her eyes was unmistakable. "You'll just have to stay by my side at all times, like before. Wherever I go, I'll take you with me."

The little fox tilted its head.

Yan Zhao patted her chest and promised, "As long as I'm around, no one will be able to take you away. I'll protect you."

The little fox's tail slowed its wagging, and its emerald-like eyes shone brightly.

As she spoke, Yan Zhao picked up the little fox again, being careful not to touch its wounds, and gently stroked its fur.

The little fox stretched out its neck, resting its chin comfortably in the crook of Yan Zhao's arm.

Half an hour later, Lei Shuang knocked on Yan Zhao's door.

Yan Zhao, still holding the fox, opened the door and finally went downstairs to meet Chen Er.

Chen Er seemed exhausted today, though it was unclear what she had been busy with yesterday.
