Su Zijun never gave a clear answer as to whether she agreed with Nangong Yin's proposed solution. However, she did wholeheartedly perform her magic, and after treatment, Xiao Jin's condition noticeably improved—it even flapped its wings and flew a couple of circles in the air.
Yan Zhao was overjoyed, and she happily thanked Su Zijun. Xiao Hei also jumped onto Yan Zhao's shoulder, clattering something incomprehensible, likely expressing its gratitude as well.
Back at the courtyard, Yan Zhao played with Xiao Jin. Though it had regained some energy, its power was greatly reduced, and after a short period of activity, it curled up to rest. Still uneasy, Yan Zhao decided that the very next day, she would set off for the Xuanyuan Clan.
Upon learning of her plan, Ren Qingyue offered a suggestion: "Aren't you acquainted with Xuanyuan Mu? Perhaps you could ask her first."
"That's right," Yan Zhao exclaimed, realizing her senior sister's point made perfect sense.
Nangong Yin needed to stay behind at the Purple Bamboo Forest to recover from her injuries, and Lei Shuang and the others were also hurt, making it inconvenient for them to travel in the human realm.
Yan Zhao understood this and confidently patted her chest. "I can go by myself!"
Ren Qingyue couldn't help but ask, "Aren't you going to invite me along?"
It puzzled Ren Qingyue—just because their paths didn't cross during their journey to the Xuanhuang Secret Realm, why had Yan Zhao stopped bringing her everywhere now? Was the difference between a person and a fox so vast?
Yan Zhao was genuinely surprised. "But aren't you staying behind to protect A-Yin?"
Ren Qingyue was speechless, her expression troubled. "Why would I need to protect A-Yin?"
Yan Zhao blinked, truthfully not knowing.
When Ren Qingyue had previously told her to protect Nangong Yin, she had assumed her senior sister and A-Yin were on the same side. Seeing Yan Zhao's confused expression, Ren Qingyue almost blurted out, "I only need to protect you." But, mindful of how thin the courtyard walls were and how anything said could be overheard by Nangong Yin, she decided to keep such sentimental words to herself.
"Then can you come with me?" Yan Zhao's eyes brightened with hope.
Though the conversation had taken a detour, reaching this conclusion made Yan Zhao genuinely happy. Ren Qingyue, feeling a bit embarrassed, straightened her posture, trying to maintain a composed front. "If you ask me properly and with the right attitude, I might consider coming along."
Yan Zhao looked puzzled. "What do you mean by 'properly and with the right attitude?'"
Moments later, Yan Zhao dramatically knocked her head on the table with a thud. "Please!"
Ren Qingyue: "..."
The next day, Yan Zhao and Ren Qingyue set out together for Xuanyuan Mu's residence. Yan Zhao had been there twice before and knew the way. They arrived by mid-morning, just before noon, and knocked on the door of the courtyard.
A bird's chirping came from within. Yan Zhao looked up and saw a brightly colored bird flapping its wings, perching atop a tall parasol tree in the courtyard. Shortly after, the inner courtyard door opened.
Xuanyuan Mu emerged, visibly surprised to see Yan Zhao. "Miss Yan."
At the same time, she noticed Ren Qingyue standing behind Yan Zhao, her expression grateful. "Thank you so much for saving me last time. Please, come in."
