Thud—
Yan Zhao felt a sharp pain in her forehead.
It turned out that the small golden bead had jumped up and tapped her forehead.
"Ugh." Yan Zhao covered her head with her hand, frowning in confusion. "Why did you hit me?"
The small golden bead remained silent, continuing to shine with golden light and floating in the air, pointing the way.
Yan Zhao pouted, unhappily following the direction indicated by the bead.
The faint golden light illuminated the path through the forest, and Yan Zhao walked steadily through the woods, guided by the bead.
The forest was silent, with only the occasional rustling of the wind at first, but soon, all that could be heard were her own footsteps.
Her steps on the fallen leaves grew louder and louder.
At some point, Yan Zhao noticed the temperature rising. The lush greenery of the forest began to fade, and the trees started to become bare.
The further she walked, the more dead trees appeared.
The dense fog in the forest cleared, but the high temperature caused distortion in her vision, and scorching marks appeared on the surrounding trees.
Yan Zhao was puzzled and asked the small golden bead, "Where are you taking me?"
The bead did not respond, continuing to point forward, urging her to keep moving.
Yan Zhao walked several hundred more steps, passing through the withered forest, and suddenly, the view opened up.
Before her stood a massive ancient tree, towering like a giant tower.
However, as Yan Zhao approached, she saw that the tree's bark was charred and its branches and leaves were all gone, making it look completely dead.
The golden bead on Yan Zhao's chest finally extinguished and retreated back into her collar.
At the same time, she heard Yan Yuanqing's voice in her mind: "Drop blood on the tree's roots."
Yan Zhao didn't understand why she needed to do this.
But since her mother had said so, there must be a reason, and Yan Zhao decided to follow the instruction.
Suddenly, an eerie creaking sound came from the tree, and a charred wooden stick descended from above, aiming directly at Yan Zhao.
A figure appeared out of nowhere, grabbing Yan Zhao around the waist and pulling her rapidly backward.
The wooden stick crashed into the ground with a loud thud, embedding itself a few inches into the mud.
The unexpected figure made Yan Zhao turn her head.
A face, as beautiful as an immortal's, was close at hand. Yan Zhao's eyes widened in surprise. "Senior Sister?"
Ren Qingyue released Yan Zhao and shielded her behind her. "Be careful, there's something in the tree."
What's in the tree?
Yan Zhao followed Ren Qingyue's gaze and saw that there was indeed something moving among the blackened branches.
Before they could clearly identify what the shadow was, a large number of withered branches flew at them like a sword array. Ren Qingyue grabbed Yan Zhao and helped her evade the branches' attack.
Thud, thud, thud.
The withered branches nailed into the ground.
Yan Zhao still couldn't see what was on the tree, but as she watched, she was getting farther away from the dead tree. She said, "Mother told me to drop blood on the roots of that tree."
