Yaoshenzi felt bitter inside. His counterpart was of equal status to him, and even when they met in public, they would always exchange polite greetings. Today, he had come to ask Su Zijun for help, but hearing her suggest that Yan Zhao should call her godmother had made him so anxious that he lost all composure. Now that they had made such a scene, how could anything be resolved?
"Fine! If it can't be done, so be it!" Yaoshenzi thought stubbornly.
He grabbed Yan Zhao's hand and started storming out of the hall. Today, he was going to show Su Zijun what it meant to be resolute!
But just before they reached the door, Yan Zhao innocently asked, "Master, what did you want to show godmother?"
Before she finished speaking, Su Zijun called out, "Wait!"
Yaoshenzi glared at Yan Zhao. "Whose side are you on, huh?" he snapped, quickening his pace.
Yan Zhao looked confused. "If calling her godmother gets me treasures and helps Master, isn't that a win-win? Why is Master upset?"
In a flash, Su Zijun appeared in front of the doorway, blocking their path. Her eyes were full of challenge as she said, "Though you are a senior, Master Yaoshenzi, it doesn't seem appropriate for you to try and take my goddaughter away in front of everyone, does it?"
Yaoshenzi's face twisted in frustration. Su Zijun had really cornered him this time.
To make matters worse, his most prized disciple was unknowingly helping her, leaving him feeling aggrieved with no outlet for his frustration.Seeing that she had the upper hand, Su Zijun allowed herself a small smile. "Since you're Zhao'er's master, surely you want what's best for her. If that's the case, why be so wary of me?"
Yaoshenzi was speechless.
Logically, he knew that with Su Zijun backing Yan Zhao, she'd be well-protected in the three realms. Even without treasures, she'd be untouchable. But knowing all this didn't make it any easier to accept. Yan Zhao was his only precious disciple, and the thought of sharing her with others made his heart ache like that of a protective father.
But things had already come this far. After thinking it over, Yaoshenzi realized he didn't have a better solution. Since Yan Zhao was willing to acknowledge Su Zijun as her godmother, he couldn't really object.
"Alright, alright. You've got a point," Yaoshenzi muttered. He pulled out the item he had brought and, without further hesitation, tossed it over to Su Zijun. "Now you have no excuse not to take a look."
Su Zijun chuckled. "It seems the senior is quite adaptable."
"Adaptable?" Yaoshenzi huffed, his beard bristling. "I call it being practical!"
Not bothering to argue, Su Zijun glanced at the object in her hands. However, as soon as her eyes fell on it, her gaze sharpened, a trace of coldness flashing across her expression.
Still, she kept her composure, weighing the object in her hand casually as she asked, "Where did you get this?"
"That's none of your concern," Yaoshenzi grumbled. "Just tell me if you recognize it."
Su Zijun nodded. "Of course I recognize it."
It was a heart-protecting mirror made from celestial meteorite iron.
"To my knowledge, this kind of material is usually found in battlefields beyond the realms," Su Zijun said, frowning. "But the human realm doesn't have the craftsmanship to make such an item. Only the celestial realm does, and it's usually reserved for rewarding officials who've rendered meritorious service."
