Ren Qingyue couldn't quite articulate her feelings.
Suddenly, she felt exhausted, an indescribable heaviness filling her heart.
Yet, she understood that Yan Zhao hadn't done anything wrong.
Even though Yan Zhao had killed someone, that person deserved to die; his fate was justified.
Moreover, Yan Zhao had acted to protect her, risking herself in the process.
If it hadn't been for the shield weakening the force of the blow, would Yan Zhao have survived?
Ren Qingyue didn't know.
Her heart was filled with guilt and pain; she hadn't fulfilled her duty as a senior sister, hadn't protected Yan Zhao, and instead put Yan Zhao in danger, repeatedly triggering a transformation in Yan Zhao that made her unrecognizable.
Such events happened time and again, and she could only watch helplessly, unable to intervene.
If her existence brought Yan Zhao misfortune, should she let go of her sooner rather than later?
Ren Qingyue's heart twisted painfully.
Yan Zhao admitted her mistake, but when her senior sister didn't respond, she immediately felt flustered.
"Senior sister."
She climbed out of Ren Qingyue's embrace, kneeling on the ground and grasping Ren Qingyue's cold hand.
Ren Qingyue looked up at her.
"I know I was wrong," Yan Zhao said, her expression dejected. "Senior sister, please forgive me."
Ren Qingyue lowered her gaze to Yan Zhao's injuries.
Since the seal within Yan Zhao had loosened and her power began to awaken, her recovery speed had increased significantly; in just a moment, her injuries had completely healed.
Ren Qingyue closed her eyes, releasing the tension in her heart, and sighed.
"You did nothing wrong." Ren Qingyue stood up in a daze, murmuring, "It's my fault."
She felt incapable of guiding Yan Zhao; she had become a stumbling block on Yan Zhao's path to growth, yet still clung to her selfishness and refused to acknowledge her failures. Staying by Yan Zhao's side would likely only exacerbate the extremities in her temperament.
The Medicine God's son could certainly do a better job of guiding Yan Zhao than she could.
The Medicine God's son watched the entire ordeal unfold with a frown.
Ren Qingyue silently got up, retracting the Demon Extermination Sword and picking up the fallen medicine box, slowly walking to the Fox Emperor.
Bai Jin helped the Fox Emperor sit up, and the Fox Emperor looked up at Ren Qingyue.
Ren Qingyue opened the box and handed him a pill.
"Thank you," the Fox Emperor said gratefully.
Ren Qingyue replied, "This pill was given by the Medicine God's son; you don't need to thank me."
The Fox Emperor: "..."
On the other side, after a brief shock, the Medicine God's son regained his composure and briefly glanced at Yan Zhao before bending down to inspect the two corpses left on the ground.
"These people were all assassins," spoke an elder from the Medicine God Sect. "There are no identifiable tokens."
The Medicine God's son examined them carefully for a moment, frowning. "How strange. There are only so many cultivators at the Great Ascension level in the human realm; which one of them isn't proud and arrogant enough to act as a henchman for someone else?"
