Yin Wuxian felt a moment of confusion.
If the sand scorpion wasn't Yan Zhao's spirit pet, then why did she just allow Ren Qingyue to tell her to lower her weapons? That was a highly aggressive wild sand scorpion!
Yet both Ren Qingyue and Yan Zhao remained calm and composed, their demeanor unruffled. Yin Wuxian sensed that if she showed too much concern, it would only make her seem inferior to Ren Qingyue.
Having entered the Fuyun Sect at the same time, their talents were comparable, but Ren Qingyue had a renowned master. In their sparring matches, Yin Wuxian often lost more than she won. Other disciples frequently saw her as a mere background figure overshadowed by Ren Qingyue.
Although they had no personal conflicts and trained in different areas, Yin Wuxian couldn't help but compare herself to Ren Qingyue in secret. Whenever they met, she felt compelled to exchange sharp words first.
However, despite her one-sided hostility, Ren Qingyue didn't take her seriously and certainly didn't see her as a rival. The disparity was clear, which left Yin Wuxian feeling quite helpless.
With a heavy sigh, she said to Wu Yingying, "Let's go. The sand city is just ahead."
Wu Yingying glanced at Ren Qingyue. She had just heard Yin Wuxian call Ren Qingyue by name and realized that this was the famous Senior Sister from Tianzhu Peak whom Yin Wuxian often mentioned.
But she couldn't understand why Yin Wuxian, who had been so friendly before, was now acting like this around Ren Qingyue, not even introducing her.
Although she wanted to ask if Ren Qingyue and her junior sister were going to sand city too, and if they could travel together, Yin Wuxian clearly wasn't in a good mood. Also, she was still afraid of the sand scorpion lurking in the sand, so she simply waved at Ren Qingyue, saying, "Goodbye."
Yin Wuxian shot her a glare. "What's there to greet her for? Put your hand down."
Wu Yingying: "... Oh."
Yin Wuxian took Wu Yingying and left. Ren Qingyue didn't mind and turned to Yan Zhao. "We should get going too."
Yan Zhao was puzzled but always took her sister's word for it, so she nodded obediently, "Okay."
The weather was indeed nice today. After a few hours of walking, they reached sand city just after noon. Ren Qingyue suggested they stay at the inn.
Yan Zhao had no objections, and as they entered the inn, they soon stopped in their tracks.
Ren Qingyue raised her eyebrows in surprise.
While speaking with the innkeeper, Yin Wuxian caught sight of the newcomers at the door. She paused, then thought, "What a coincidence."
Wu Yingying heard Yin Wuxian muttering to herself and followed her gaze, brightening up. "It's Senior Sister Ren."
"Why are you still calling her Senior Sister?" Yin Wuxian shot her an annoyed look. "Don't call everyone Senior Sister. She's not exactly easygoing—watch out or she'll hit you."
As Ren Qingyue approached the counter, she glanced at Yin Wuxian. "Can you stop spreading rumors about me?"
Yan Zhao suddenly chimed in, "I can confirm, she's not joking; the Senior Sister is really fierce."
"..." Ren Qingyue felt a vein throb in her forehead as she knocked Yan Zhao's head lightly. "Who are you helping here?"
Yan Zhao winced and covered her forehead. "I'm just speaking the truth."
