While Yan Zhao was trying out new techniques in the alchemy tower, the grand hall of the Medicine God Sect received two unexpected guests.
"Elder Wu, my apologies for not welcoming you sooner," Elder Wu, representing the Medicine God Child, greeted the two envoys from the Immortal Alliance with a cupped-hand salute. "May I ask what brings you to the Medicine God Sect?"
Envoy Zhang Gao spoke first, "Is the Medicine God Child here?"
Zhang Gao's imposing demeanor was unabashedly aggressive, causing Elder Wu's brow to furrow momentarily before relaxing again.
Displaying no sign of dissatisfaction, Elder Wu responded respectfully, "Envoy, our sect leader has been busy researching new elixirs and has been in seclusion for almost half a year, seeing no visitors. If you have any instructions, it would be the same if you spoke to me."
"Since you are within the sect, there is no reason not to see us," Zhang Gao said imperiously, "Go and fetch him immediately!"
Elder Wu took a deep breath to suppress his anger and replied, "Please wait in the hall for a moment, I will report this to our sect leader right away."
Leading the two envoys into the grand hall of the sect, Elder Wu excused himself with a cupped-hand gesture. Yuan Jin then said to Zhang Gao, "The Medicine God Child holds considerable prestige in the Taiyan Immortal Domain; even the Immortal Alliance Lord must show respect. You should temper your attitude."
Zhang Gao sneered upon hearing this, "So what? He is merely a mortal in the lower realm. Even if he sheltered a thief, or had nothing to do with the matter, waiting to be treated with courtesy should be left until he ascends to the higher realm."
Yuan Jin, seeing his advice was futile, grew stern, "Do not think that because you have been granted a golden armor, you can look down on experts from the mortal realm. Even though Yan Yuanqing is dead, the mortal realm is not limited to just one Yan Yuanqing. I've said all I need to; you should consider this carefully."
Zhang Gao was displeased by these words, his brows furrowed, and he was reluctant to deal with someone as indecisive as Yuan Jin if not for the fact that he wanted to gain credit.
As they spoke, the sound of footsteps approached the hall, and they turned to see an elderly man with disheveled hair and a haggard appearance striding into the hall.
The Medicine God Child squinted his eyes and, after a moment of inspection, finally noticed the two envoys.
"Did you come looking for me?" the Medicine God Child yawned lazily. "If you have something to say, make it quick. I've just made some progress on a new elixir formula and don't want to be delayed."
The Medicine God Child's nonchalant attitude made Zhang Gao unhappy, and he said with a stern face, "Are you the Medicine God Child? Yan Yuanqing's daughter is in your sect, correct? Hand her over!"
"Yan Yuanqing's daughter?" The Medicine God Child looked confused. "I don't know of anyone like that."
Zhang Gao raised his voice, "Old man, stop pretending. A year ago, someone from the Fuyun Sect personally identified Yan Yuanqing's daughter as being in the Medicine God Sect!"
The news of Xie Xinrong's death at the hands of Nangong Yin had been relayed back to the Heavenly Realm, and the Immortal Emperor issued new orders to verify the identity of Yan Yuanqing's daughter to see if she could lead to the recovery of the lost treasure in the Immortal Realm.
With the back-and-forth of messages, they had received new orders a year ago.
The Medicine God Child put on an expression of "you must be joking," and scoffed, "A year ago? Such a distant matter, how could I remember? The guests from that medicine convention have long left the mountain, so you should look elsewhere!"
