Ren Qingyue really wanted to poke Yan Zhao's little head and see what was going on in her mind all day. Yan Zhao had no self-awareness at all; she only knew that being around her shijie felt magically comforting.

Leaning against her shijie, breathing in her familiar scent, Yan Zhao could sleep soundly. After a night of pleasant dreams, Ren Qingyue gently shook Yan Zhao awake at dawn.

"The weather looks nice today. If we leave early, we might reach Sand City before sunset."

"Mm." As Yan Zhao opened her eyes, the sight of her shijie's beautiful face brightened her morning. "Shijie!"

Ren Qingyue smiled warmly. "It's time to get up."

Feeling slightly more awake, Yan Zhao realized she was sprawled across Ren Qingyue's lap. The hard ground beneath her back was uncomfortable, but the position of her head was just right.

Still feeling lazy after waking up, Yan Zhao closed her eyes again. "I want to lie down a little longer."

Ren Qingyue chuckled and playfully tugged Yan Zhao's ear. "Are you getting up or not?"

With a yelp, Yan Zhao bared her teeth, quickly complying as she sat up. "I'm up, I'm up!"

Ren Qingyue was definitely not gentle when it came to waking her up; Yan Zhao thought it was a shame.

After they packed up and prepared to set off, a sudden sharp shout came from a distance.

"Are you from the Fuyun Sect?!"

Yan Zhao jolted awake, and Ren Qingyue instinctively placed a hand on her sword, glancing warily toward the source of the voice.

After a moment, no one appeared.

Yan Zhao exchanged a puzzled look with Ren Qingyue. "Were they talking about us?"

Ren Qingyue furrowed her brows. "Stay here for a moment; I'll check it out."

Curious, Yan Zhao insisted, "I want to go too."

Ren Qingyue, with a hint of exasperation, warned her, "Just be careful, don't make a sound, and don't get spotted."

Yan Zhao's eyes twinkled as she suddenly pulled out a mask to cover her face. "If I get found out, no one will recognize me."

Ren Qingyue was taken aback by her cleverness and laughed. "That's pretty smart."

Yan Zhao beamed. "Of course!"

The two of them quietly made their way toward the sound, gently parting the foliage to reveal a large group of people gathered, swords drawn, facing two women.

One of them wore the robes of a Fuyun Sect disciple.

Ren Qingyue glanced at her and whispered to Yan Zhao, "It's someone from Huang Yin Peak."

Yan Zhao craned her neck to get a better look but couldn't tell who was who.

The Fuyun disciple held a jade flute, using it to shield another girl behind her, demanding, "What do you want?"

"The Fuyun Sect has done terrible things; we are here to eradicate evil!"

Around them, righteous figures shouted angrily, calling for their blood.

Just then, the girl being protected stepped forward and declared loudly, "Sister Yin is a good person; she didn't participate in making the corpses!"

"You say she didn't, so she didn't? Fuyun Sect disciples are all good at pretending; we won't be fooled!"
