Yan Zhao's question received no response, and the dragon let out another warm breath.

It had been forced into a contract, so it no longer held hostility toward Yan Zhao, but its current situation was far from comforting. Strange noises occasionally came from the darkness. Yan Zhao pressed closely against the dragon's body, holding up a luminous pearl as she felt her way toward the source of the sounds. Before long, she saw a metal chain as thick as an arm.

One end of the chain was embedded in the ground, while the other was attached to the dragon's body. Yan Zhao grabbed the chain and tried to pull, but it wouldn't budge. All she heard was the dragon's labored breathing.

At that moment, Xiao Hei jumped onto Yan Zhao's shoulder, then leaped onto the dragon's body, calling out to her from above: "Clang clang!"

With the luminous pearl in one hand, Yan Zhao used the other to grip the dragon's scales and climb up. Soon, she reached the top of the dragon's head and realized what Xiao Hei was signaling.

The end of the metal chain was connected to a large iron spike embedded in the dragon's body, though it was unclear how deep it went. The wound around it had long since festered, and the dragon's scales were discolored, with pus oozing out near the spike.

Yan Zhao was shocked. "Oh no, this injury is serious."

The iron spike was as thick as a bowl, yet it was driven into the dragon's flesh like a thin nail. Yan Zhao continued walking forward, holding the pearl. Every ten steps, she found another spike, pinning the massive dragon firmly to the ground.

As she walked, she muttered quietly, "Who would do something so cruel?"

Xiao Hei excitedly echoed her sentiment with more "clang clang" noises. Yan Zhao eventually made her way back to the dragon's head. After some thought, she decided to try pulling one of the spikes out.

She chose a nearby spike, gripped it with both hands, and pulled upward with all her strength. The spike had fused with the dragon's flesh over time, making it nearly impossible to move. Beneath her, the dragon's body twitched and trembled, its breathing becoming more labored. Yet, whether from weakness or the chains, its struggles remained faint.

Despite her efforts, the spike didn't budge.

Yan Zhao sighed, realizing brute force wasn't the answer. She rested her chin on her hand, trying to come up with a new plan.

Xiao Hei bounced around on the dragon's back, clearly bored. Out of the corner of her eye, Yan Zhao noticed his shadow jumping up and down, and suddenly an idea came to her. "Ah, I've got it!" she called out, gesturing for Xiao Hei to come over.

Xiao Hei, thrilled to be called upon, eagerly jumped into Yan Zhao's arms, acting as affectionate as ever. For once, Yan Zhao didn't swat him away. Xiao Hei was over the moon, basking in this rare moment of affection from his master.

Yan Zhao stroked his head before placing him in the gap between the dragon's body and the chain. The tenderness vanished instantly, leaving Xiao Hei confused.

Then, she ordered, "Enlarge yourself and jump."

Despite not fully understanding, Xiao Hei obeyed. With a loud clang, his transformed body slammed into the chain, dislodging the spike embedded in the dragon's flesh with a clean, swift motion.

The dragon's body convulsed beneath them, and it let out a thunderous roar of pain. From where she stood, Yan Zhao could feel the dragon's astonished gaze, filled with shock and confusion. It seemed baffled by how easily the small human and her metal creature had removed the spike.
