In no time, Yan Zhao saw the white-robed figure meditating by the pool.
It was a strikingly handsome man. He wore a loose white robe, his expression haggard, and he appeared frail and sickly, his complexion pale and unhealthy. Hearing some slight movements from the forest, he lifted his head and saw a small red fox hanging like a dried fish from a woman's arm. The woman, however, seemed completely unfazed by it.
"Why are you biting me?" Yan Zhao exclaimed angrily. "I saved you before, you ungrateful little fox!"
The red fox glared at her: "You saved me? When did you save me? I should be thanking my lucky stars you didn't hurt me! Don't think you can get close to my uncle—I won't let you harm him!"
It was furious.
Its gaze was intense, but Yan Zhao didn't seem to understand a bit of it. She shook her arm hard, but the fox wouldn't let go. So, with her other hand, she pinched its black nose.
Bai Jin: "..."
Unable to breathe, the fox had no choice but to let go. It kicked off Yan Zhao's body, landed on the ground, and transformed back into human form, immediately running towards the sickly man by the cold pond.
Yan Zhao was astonished by what she saw.
She had already been shocked the first time the little red fox turned into a human, but even seeing it again, it still seemed unbelievable.
So, this is what it looks like when a beast becomes sentient?
Does that mean her Snowball might one day become human too?
She tried to imagine what Snowball would look like in human form.
After a moment of pondering, she gave up.
It was impossible to picture.
The man by the cold pond stood up, looking at the approaching Yan Zhao and Wu Yingying, but before he could speak, Bai Jin loudly announced, "Uncle, this is Yan Zhao!"
Yan Zhao?
Tu Shan Xun's expression shifted.
Was this the disciple of the Medicine God? The one whom his long-lost daughter was so devoted to, willing to turn herself into a spiritual pet just to stay by her side?
When Bai Jin called out Yan Zhao's name, Wu Yingying was taken aback and turned to Yan Zhao in surprise, asking, "You know each other?"
Yan Zhao shook her head, "I've only met this rude little fox."
Bai Jin flared up in anger, "Who are you calling rude?!"
Having been bitten, Yan Zhao wasn't in the mood to argue, but Wu Yingying seemed to be deep in thought. After a moment, she suddenly asked, "Are you a senior of the Qingqiu Fox Clan?"
Tu Shan Xun's eyes flickered with surprise. "And you are?"
"I'm Wu Yingying," she said cheerfully. "Elder Wu is my grandfather."
The Fox Emperor nodded, now understanding. "I see."
Wu Yingying, being naturally outgoing, quickly asked, "How should we address you, Senior?"
The Fox Emperor replied, "My name is Tu Shan Xun."
"Tu Shan Xun?" Wu Yingying repeated, then with a wide-eyed look of astonishment, she gasped, "Are you the Fox Emperor?!"
It was said that the Medicine God had once visited Qingqiu to study the art of alchemy, and had become somewhat of a fellow disciple to the Fox Emperor. However, the Fox Emperor rarely left the demon realm, and most of the interactions between the two worlds were handled by his son, Tu Shan Yu. Though Wu Yingying had met Tu Shan Yu before, this was her first time seeing the Fox Emperor in person.
