Xiao Hei rolled back to Yan Zhao's side. As it passed a crack in the ground, it was slightly tripped by a gust of wind blowing up from below.
It wasn't a big deal; it just bounced higher and landed with a thud, creating a small pit in the ground—no harm done.
The bat, Xiao Jin, flapped its wings to gain speed, then folded its wings right before the wind curtain, using the momentum to shoot through like an arrow.
Yan Zhao waved, and Xiao Jin lightly landed on her hand.
Xiao Hei lifted the lid of its furnace again, with a clatter, and spat out the little red fox.
The group regained their composure. Lei Shuang exclaimed in amazement, "Your little pets are incredibly useful!"
Xiao Hei, having tossed out Bai Jin, bounced excitedly in front of Yan Zhao, clearly wanting recognition.
Yan Zhao absentmindedly patted Xiao Hei's head, complimenting it for being great.
"Clatter clatter!" Xiao Hei was overjoyed.
If it had a tail, it would be wagging it high in the air.
Yan Zhao turned her attention to the little red fox, which had spiral-shaped eyes and a tiny pink tongue sticking out, seemingly in a daze.
It was unclear if it was originally dizzy or if Xiao Hei had made it dizzy.
Yan Zhao crouched down in front of the little red fox and poked its nose.
"I'll handle this." Ren Qingyue stepped forward and cast a spell on the fainted little red fox.
The fox trembled, then slowly opened its eyes, waking up.
Groggy, it blinked and, seeing Ren Qingyue, wondered if it was imagining things.
Ren Qingyue formed another seal, and the little red fox transformed back into human form, lying on the ground, dazed, murmuring, "Cousin..."
With an inexplicable strength, it grabbed Ren Qingyue's hand and held it close, expressing its nostalgia and melancholy, "It's wonderful to see you again in the afterlife; heaven has treated me kindly."
The group exchanged glances, and Yan Zhao turned to ask, "Senior Sister, why does she call you cousin?"
Ren Qingyue remained unfazed. "She's just talking nonsense."
"Oh," Yan Zhao accepted it without suspicion. "Is she dying?"
Ren Qingyue: "..."
She flicked Bai Jin's forehead with her finger.
With a soft sound, Bai Jin winced in pain, yelping as her features contorted.
After a moment, she suddenly opened her eyes wide, her vision no longer fixated on just Ren Qingyue.
Turning her head to survey her surroundings, Bai Jin's eyes widened in disbelief as she returned her gaze to Ren Qingyue.
"Incredible: I'm still alive?"
"You're far from dead," Ren Qingyue said teasingly. "If we had come a bit later, your wounds would have healed."
Bai Jin regained her composure and felt embarrassed.
She glanced at her back injuries and murmured, "But it shouldn't be..."
At this moment, Nangong Yin spoke up, "This place isn't safe; let's talk as we move."
Ren Qingyue reached out to help Bai Jin up. As she fished a vial of medicine from her sleeve, she paused and suddenly asked Yan Zhao, "Nian Qing, I'd like to split one vial of the medicine you gave me with Bai Jin. Would you mind?"
