Crystal stared at Elijah, disbelief etched into her features. “What is Hazel doing here, Elijah?” she demanded, her voice unsteady.
Elijah leaned back, attempting to remain calm. “Relax, Crystal.”
“How can I relax? You... you kidnapped her?” Her voice rose in shock, her gaze searching his face for answers.
He met her eyes with a steady look. “Yes, just like Dimitri took you. We took his fiancée.”
Her breath hitched as she processed his words. “I didn’t expect this from you, Elijah. This isn’t right.”
He sighed, his face a mixture of frustration and resolve. “I had no other choice. I wasn’t going to let you suffer while he got away with everything.”
Crystal took a deep breath, steadying herself. “I’m here now, Elijah. Let her go. This isn’t the answer.”
He hesitated, his expression clouded. “I can’t.”
“What?” Her voice was a mix of confusion and hurt. “Why not?”
“Because I don’t want her going back to him,” he replied, a flicker of jealousy sneaking into his tone.
Crystal’s eyes widened. “Elijah... don’t tell me you’re—”
“She deserves better, Crystal,” he cut her off. “Dimitri was cheating on you. How do we know he’s not doing the same to her? Who knows how many other girls there could be?”
Her jaw tightened as his words hit a nerve. “I’m already hurt, Elijah.”
“It’s the truth, Crystal. Sometimes, we have to accept the facts,” he said, his tone firm.
“But keeping her here... it’s not right,” she insisted, her voice softer but filled with determination. “Forget Dimitri; her father is powerful and dangerous. You shouldn’t get involved with people like them.”
A shadow crossed his face. “I’m already involved, Crystal.”
“Elijah…” she said, almost pleading, unsure of how to reach him.
