Flashback

Hazel’s father sat across from Dimitri, the two men silent as they waited outside the abandoned building where Crystal was being held captive. The air was tense, the silence punctuated by the occasional sound of distant footsteps echoing through the cold concrete halls.

“She’s not my girlfriend,” Dimitri had said, his voice calm and devoid of emotion. “I’m just using her.”

Hazel’s father studied him, a faint smirk of satisfaction creeping onto his face. This was exactly what he wanted to hear—confirmation that Crystal meant nothing to Dimitri.

Dimitri continued, his tone steady and controlled. “I already have a fiancée. She’s nothing to me.”

Then, suddenly, the indifference faded. Dimitri’s eyes hardened, and his voice dropped, tinged with frustration. “Isn’t this what you wanted to hear from me?” he asked, anger simmering beneath his calm exterior. “But it’s not true. It never was, and it never will be.”

Dimitri’s face softened slightly, his true feelings shining through. “I love Crystal, and no one—especially you—can change that.”

Hazel’s father’s expression twisted with rage. “How dare you betray my daughter like this!” he shouted, his fists clenching.

Dimitri’s jaw tightened. “You think I’m the one hurting Hazel? The truth is, she’s suffering because of you. If you would just agree to her surgery, she’d have a chance at a better life. But you refuse, and it’s tearing her apart.”

“Shut up!” Hazel’s father bellowed, his face flushed with anger, unwilling to hear the truth that Dimitri laid bare.

End of flashback.

Back in the present, Dimitri’s gaze locked onto Hazel’s father, his expression fierce and unyielding. “Let her go.”

Hazel’s father sneered, his eyes narrowing with disdain. “You really do love her, don’t you?” he taunted, tightening his hold on Crystal as the blade hovered dangerously close to her throat.

Dimitri didn’t respond, his silence conveying his determination more than words ever could.

Hazel’s father’s lips curled into a smirk as he raised the knife just a fraction closer to Crystal’s skin. “Both of you care for her too much,” he spat, glancing between Dimitri and Elijah.

Elijah’s voice rang out, desperation laced in his tone. “More than my own life.”

Dimitri’s voice joined in unison, “More than my own  life.”

A twisted laugh erupted from Hazel’s father as he looked between the two men. He shook his head, amused at their shared declaration, but his laughter died abruptly, his face morphing into a serious expression.

“If you , then prove it,” he sneered, taunting them further by acting as if he was about to cut Crystal’s throat.“Then show me,” he said coldly, his voice void of emotion. “Show me how much you’re willing to sacrifice for her.”
