The hospital's doors swung open, and the sterile environment felt like a sharp contrast to the chaos they had just escaped. A doctor rushed toward Dimitri, urgency etched across his face. “We need to take her in for surgery immediately. Her memories are triggered, and we need her family present for support,” he instructed, glancing back toward the operating room.
“Do it,” Dimitri replied, his eyes steely as he turned to see Hazel's uncle approaching. The two shared a somber look, an unspoken understanding passing between them. They nodded, a silent pact forged in the heat of the moment.
“Prepare for surgery,” the doctor called out to the nurses, and they began bustling about, readying equipment as the tension in the air thickened.
"you two should get treated too,” crystal suggested, eyeing them with concern.
“We’re fine,” Dimitri and Elijah replied in unison, their voices taut with unyielding defiance. They shot each other an irritated glare.
“ what about you?” Dimitri turned to Crystal, concern etched on his brow. “Did he cut you?”
Crystal shared a knowing glance with Elijah, a flicker of mischief dancing in her eyes as she smiled softly. “Let me tell you,” she began, her voice teasingly light.
Dimitri leaned in, intrigued, but the weight of the moment made it hard to ignore his own injuries. “Seriously, show me,” he urged, shifting slightly as the doctor began to clean his wounds.
Elijah couldn’t help but smile at the exchange, watching the two with a mix of admiration and amusement. They had faced chaos together, yet here they were, finding moments of levity amidst the turmoil.
As they sat together, the doctor worked diligently on Dimitri's wounds. Crystal studied him, concern mingling with fondness in her gaze. “Is it paining?” she asked, her voice soft but filled with playful accusation.
Dimitri shook his head adamantly, trying to exude nonchalance. But just as he did, the stinging sensation of antiseptic hit him like a rogue wave. “Ahh!” he exclaimed, instinctively jerking back.
“Liar,” Crystal muttered with a grin, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
