Dimitri’s irritation flared as he shot a glare at Elijah, frustration boiling beneath the surface. “Can’t you do it sooner?” he snapped, his voice tight with tension.
“Why would I?” Elijah replied, a smirk creeping onto his face. “Wouldn’t want to miss such an interesting show. Watching you beg is quite the spectacle.”
“Shut up,” Dimitri hissed, the anger in his tone clear as he clenched his fists, desperately trying to keep his focus on Crystal and not on Elijah’s taunts.
Just then, a voice cut through the tension. “Hazel!”
Dimitri’s heart raced as he turned to see her rushing toward them, her eyes wide with determination. But as she approached, her expression shifted, horror replacing the urgency. “Stop!” a man’s voice barked, but it was too late.
“Dimitri!” Hazel cried, freezing mid-step as she took in the chaotic scene. Bloodied and battered, Dimitri was kneeling on the ground, the aftermath of a brutal fight evident on his face and body.
Her gaze then landed on the lifeless body sprawled on the floor nearby. For a moment, she didn’t recognize who it was, confusion clouding her mind. But as she stepped closer, the realization hit her like a freight train. “Dad…” she whispered, her voice barely a breath, and a tear escaped her eye.
Panic surged through her, her heart racing as she struggled to process the sight before her. No, no, no… It couldn’t be. Just as the truth sank in, she felt the world spinning around her, darkness creeping in at the edges of her vision.
“Oh god,” she gasped, stumbling backward, her breath coming in quick, shallow gasps. She was about to fall when, like a flash, Elijah was there, rushing to her side and catching her before she hit the ground.
“What happened here?” the man asked
“Call an ambulance!” Elijah shouted to the man , his focus shifting back to Hazel, who was trembling in his arms. “Call fast!” he urged, his heart pounding as he watched the panic overtaking her.
