Elijah narrowed his eyes, scanning Crystal’s face. “What are you doing here?” he asked.
“What else? Shopping.” Crystal folded her arms, a hint of annoyance in her voice.
“Don’t tell me you’re actually getting comfortable there,” Elijah replied, disbelief lacing his tone.
She sighed. “Elijah, don’t start.”
He looked around suspiciously. “Who did you come with? I haven’t seen Dimitri here.”
“His mother brought me,” she replied, trying to keep her tone casual.
Elijah’s expression darkened. “How can he be so careless, letting you out like this?”
Suddenly, Crystal’s frustration spilled over. “When are you taking me home, Elijah?” Her voice was a mix of hope and impatience.
He paused, his eyes softening as he looked at her. “Soon… very soon.”
She frowned, clearly unsatisfied. “I asked When?”
He ran a hand through his hair, hesitating. “Let’s just say I’m working on it. We have to be careful.”
“Well, I’m done waiting. Let’s go home now,” she insisted, her tone growing sharper.
“Not like this, Crystal,” he said, his voice calm but firm.
“Why not?” she asked, irritation building.
Elijah exhaled, glancing away. “If we rush this, it’ll only end badly. I need time to make sure this is foolproof.”
Crystal scoffed. “And how long is that going to take, Elijah? When he announce me as his wife?” Her voice was laced with sarcasm.
A smooth, chilling voice interrupted their tense conversation. “Not a bad idea, doll”
Both of them turned, shocked, to see Dimitri standing just a few feet away, his gaze locked on them with a dangerously calm smile.
“Dimitri…” Crystal whispered, fear flashing in her eyes.
