Elijah guided Crystal home, the drive heavy with her quiet sobs as she processed the crushing betrayal. Once they arrived, he led her to the living room and gently urged her to sit.
"Get her some water," he instructed the maid, who promptly returned with a glass.
"Drink, Crystal," he urged softly, but she shook her head, looking lost.
"He lied to me, Elijah," she whispered, her voice breaking. "He always told me he loved me. But he said I meant nothing to him… that he was just using me."
Tears streaked down her face as she continued, her tone filled with disbelief and hurt. "His mother lied too… He’s still engaged. All of it was just manipulation."
Elijah took her into his arms, letting her release her pain. "Shh, Crystal," he soothed. "You shouldn’t have trusted him."
Her shoulders shook as she cried harder. "I’ll never forgive him for this… for making me believe in something that was never real."
Elijah held her tightly. "We won’t forgive him either," he assured her, his tone protective. He let her cry, staying silent until she finally grew calmer, her breathing evening out.
"Go wash your face and try to rest," he said gently. "You need it."
She nodded, wiping her tears, and was just about to leave when the sound of heavy knocking on the front door startled her.
Elijah’s expression turned guarded. "Did you remove everything sharp from the room?" he asked the guard at his side.
"Yes, sir," the guard replied firmly.
Crystal’s brows furrowed in concern. "What’s going on?" she asked, sensing the tension.
Elijah placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "It’s nothing for you to worry about. Just focus on getting some rest."
He nodded at the maid. "Take her to her room."
The maid gently guided Crystal away, but a feeling of unease lingered as she glanced back, wondering who could be at the door.
