With Scott and Malcolm:

The Possum and Lake Monster both stood in front of the ten story, old brick apartment building.

Scott quickly took a look at the address, the Possum glancing up at the street sign to confirm they were indeed in front of the right building.

“Well…this IS the right apartment building. Does anything look familiar to you?” asked Scott, the Possum turning his attention down to Malcolm.

The child frowned, but nodded, the Lake Monster glancing around.

“It does, yes…I remember thinking about how old the building looked when I left. This was my first time outside…so I don’t know what it looked like outside up until now…” admitted Malcolm, the Lake Monster blushing lightly as he glanced down at the ground.

Scott’s ears perked up once again at the alarming news.

This kid’s father never let him out of their apartment?

Who watched the kid whenever he left to go do his ‘sales’?

And did he ever plan on letting the poor kid outside to even make friends, get some much needed sunlight, or even to simply get some fresh air at all?

Scott bit back a snarl at the thought of this kid’s father being this neglectful towards his son, but he managed to suppress it, not wanting to scare the kid again.

“Let’s head inside and see if we can find your apartment, then” said Scott, the Possum managing to put on a smile for the kid, deciding to do some more searching on the kid’s father later, just to see what kind of guy he really was.

Malcolm nodded in agreement, the Lake Monster grabbing Scott’s hand once again before leading the Possum into the building.

The inside was no better than the outside, in fact, it appeared far worse.

The lobby had multiple water stains along the ceiling, as if there were multiple leaks coming from the apartment above, and the floor was littered with old crushed cigarettes and garbage to the point where Scott was REALLY regretting not being the kind of denizen to wear shoes.

Maybe he should consider getting a pair of foot protectors, like the ones Venno wore? He had seen the Velociraptor wear what appeared to be different styles, some of them even looking more like thigh high socks or a pair of tights, but they do, in fact, have thin yet tough rubber soles on the bottom. They allowed certain denizens who can’t wear regular shoes walk around without having to worry about injuring their feet on sharp objects on the ground.

Especially if they have things like large claws, like Velociraptors, or any Dinosaurs for that matter.

Denizens such as some Canines, like Barry, do not wear them.

Scott glanced down at his paws, flinching back when he realized he had nearly stepped on what appeared to a large glass shard.

Quickly sidestepping the dangerous object on the ground, Scott made a mental note to go foot protector shopping later that day.

He then glanced down at Malcolm’s feet, seeing that he, too, walks around with no foot protectors, the Lake Monster seeming unbothered by the trash covered floor.

Then again, the Lake Monster was most likely covered in thin scales, giving the soles of his feet extra protection from sharp debris on the ground.

Scott shook his head, deciding to get back to the matter at hand.

He can worry about getting foot protectors later, after he helped this kid, of course.

As it turns out, the apartment building had NO elevator, and was ten floors high.
