A Little Later:

Scott’s Apartment:

With Scott:

The Possum was impatiently tapping his foot on the floor as he waited for the elevator to finally reach his floor.

It was only a ten story building, not even close to being as high as some of the more taller skyscrapers around Terronto, but just standing and waiting for the elevator to finally stop right now felt like waiting to reach the sixtieth floor as opposed to the seventh floor he currently lived on.

Scott’s ears perked up when he heard the elevator ding, the doors slowly opening as the Possum impatiently managed to squeeze through the opening gap before rushing down the hallway.

Skidding to a stop in front of his door, the Possum quickly fumbled to take his keys out of his jean pocket before slamming them into the keyhole, twisting the lock open.

Bursting through the door to his apartment, Scott quickly scanned the living room before stepping in and shutting the door quickly, ensuring it was locked up tightly.

“Malcolm!? Where are you, kid? Is something wrong?” called Scott worriedly, the Possum rushing to the kitchen and dining room quickly before turning to head down the hall to the spare bedroom that now belongs to Malcolm.

Scott then halted, the Possum quickly backtracking and peering back into the dining room when he realized he accidentally missed the young Lake Monster sitting with his head down on the table, his arms hiding his head.

Scott tilted his head to the side in confusion and worry as he slowly walked over, the Possum noticing the stillness of Malcolm’s long tail.

The young Lake Monster was only six, about to turn seven in only a week, and he was already growing an inch taller each year. Not to mention, his tail seemed to be twice as long as his height, meaning if he were to grow up to be six feet tall, then his tail would be at least twelve feet in length.

Scott shook his head, the Possum deciding to focus on the matter at hand instead of worrying about how much taller the young Lake Monster could potentially get, thus making him already feel short despite being the older brother.

Scott gently reached out his hand and placed it on Malcolm’s shoulder only to have it quickly shoved off, the young Lake Monster’s body going tense as he turned his head to snarl at the Possum.

“Why did ye come home so late!? I texted ye an hour ago an ye never showed up when I needed ye!” exclaimed Malcolm angrily, the young Lake Monster trying to keep his tears at bay, but it was no use because they were already falling before he even realized he was shedding them.

Since Malcolm was growing up, his accent was beggining to become more prominant, some of the words he's spoken sounding more Scottish than they did when they first met.

Scott’s ears were now pinned back, the Possum shocked by the sudden outburst from the young Lake Monster.

“I tried to come home the moment I got your texts, but there was too much traffic! I couldn’t go two feet without nearly getting run over by some crazy driver!” exclaimed Scott, the Possum raising his arms in defence as he tried his best not to swear in front of the kid.

Malcolm only rolled his eyes, the young Lake Monster getting up from his seat and walking to the sliding glass doors leading to the balcony.

“Ye always tell me those same excuses…just like ma dad did….” muttered Malcolm angrily, the young Lake Monster thinking that Scott wouldn’t hear him, but the Possum had silently followed him out onto the balcony.
