The Entangled Webs (Story 17 - Chapter 3)

A Few Hours Later:

With Venno: 

The Velociraptor, along with her husband, Elvira and Jerry were all scattered around in Venno’s office while the Black Widow sat with a blanket wrapped around her shoulders tightly, a distant look in her eyes as she continued to stare blankly forward into the flames of the now lit fireplace. Wrapped around her head was a fresh bandage, the Black Widow finally allowing her head to be examined AFTER arriving at the BHA where Venno had quickly called in first aid for her injury.

“I just don’t understand. Why would a former bounty from over twenty five years ago destroy your bar and come after you now?” asked Venno, the Velociraptor trying to make sense of what was going on. 

Dexx frowned and nodded as he gently bounced Elvira in his arms, the Velociraptor Angler looking as though she was about to fall asleep with her head resting on her father’s shoulder. 

“Yeah, I mean…that whole thing with the pit of vines that completely tore your bar apart? That was uncalled for” said Dexx, the Anglerfish trying to understand why someone would hold so much anger towards the Black Widow for so long. 

Jerry sighed when he saw that Arachné was not going to be doing any talking any time soon, seeing as how she had refused to even glance over when they started talking. 

“He was the second last bounty that we were dealing with, before my accident. Widow was young and eager, but that did not stop her from making one fatal mistake in her determination to catch the husband and wife bounty” started Jerry, the older Spider wheeling his wheelchair over to the window wall, now glancing out as the memories of what had happened so long ago were just starting to resurface. 

Venno and Dexx both exchanged glances, the two getting startled as their friends all burst into the office, but the group remained silent as Jerry continued without realizing they were now present. 

“It was perhaps three months before my accident, and we were on the lead of two Rose Thorn Plant denizens. A husband and wife couple who had been large drug overlords at the time. They had a pretty big gang here in Terronto, before the Spiders and the Sharks even came in and formed their own gangs” explained Jerry, the older Spider swiftly taking out a cigar and lighting it with ease. 

Taking a few puffs before sighing, the older Spider continued as the Hounds, the Arachnidias, and the Neolites came in to stand closer to where Venno and Dexx were with Arachné. 

“Those two had been big hiders, always staying hidden away and doing their business running in the background while they had their grunts do all the hard work, sending out dealers to finish deals and whatnot. But one of them made a simple mistake which led a young Arachné to make a fatal mistake in return” continued Jerry, the older Spider closing his eyes as visions from the past began coming back to him. 

Flashback Start: 

“Jerry, we got this! I’ve gotten reports from witnesses saying she went into the hospital earlier this morning! We can catch her, bring her in, and in turn will draw her husband out of hiding, too!” exclaimed a young Arachné, the Black Widow dressed in her Bounty Hunter uniform, her bow strapped to her back with the quiver of arrows strapped behind her waist. 

A younger Jerry at the time, around forty, sighed in frustration as he rubbed his temples. 

“And the answer is fucking no, Widow. We can’t just run in there and drag her out of the hospital without properly understanding why she’s even in there in the first place!” exclaimed Jerry, the Spider glaring at his young apprentice as she took a step back in shock before shaking her head, now glaring back at him.
