Joe sighed as he looked in the mirror, he smoothed out his clothes before heading out of his room shutting the door behind him. Joe was one of three children and also the youngest, he was the only one who still lived with mother and her husband. Joe still saw his father but only every other weekend when he wasn't busy. Joe grabbed his back pack before swinging it over his shoulder. He made his way downstairs.

"I'm off to school!" Joe shouted through into the kitchen where he knew his mother would be after spending the night at work herself she still got up early to see her son to school before heading off to bed. Joe spent the night with his step father, Gary.

"Don't you want any breakfast sweetie?" Denise inquired Joe shaking his head even though she couldn't see him.

"No, I'll grab some at school!" Joe shouted back before bidding goodbye again heading down the path. He wondered the streets deep in thought as he kicked a stone, he ached mentally and physically but he just couldn't tell his mother what was going on. Before he knew it he was in school meeting up with his friends, that's when his attitude changed from what he was like around his mother to the jerk he was around everyone else including his teachers.

"Whoa Jonas where did you get that black eye and bust lip from?" Grant, one of his friends questioned as Joe made his way over.

"I fought some guy at the park," Joe stated opening his locker putting his books that he didn't need in before taking out the ones he needed. "Let's just say he ended up worse than I did." His friends all laughed and cheered filling the hallway up with noise.

"So that's where you were, I was trying to call you to tell you that there was a party going on." Spencer answered.

"Yeah my mom wanted me to run some earns for Gary and I took a shortcut through the park," Joe explained but smirked when he saw his cousin walk past. "Hey Nick aren't you going to say hey to your favourite cousin?"

"You're nowhere near my favourite cousin," Nick snapped then looking up at him. "Where did you get those injuries from."

"Beat some guy up if you must know." Joe stated shutting his locker his eyes then landing on Willa and Demi, he just sniggered at them before leaving his friends not far behind him all pushing past Nick as they went.

Nick, Willa and Demi all continued to wonder the corridor heading towards homeroom which they all had together but Demi couldn't help but think about Joe. It was all she could think about. She sighed looking up at the two people who had made her feel more than welcome at that school but mainly up at Nick.

"What is home like for Joe?" Demi inquired.

"Um normal, he has his mom and older sisters who have left home already and a step father why?" Nick answered adding in his own question but Demi shook her head gently.

"No reason, just wondering why he is like he is." Demi admitted but lied.

"There is no reason for it, he is just a jerk, no reason behind it." Willa stated as they made their way into the classroom taking a seat on the same table grabbing some books so it actually looked as if they were doing something.

"Probably." Demi muttered under her breath but she wasn't convinced. She knew those kind of injuries from anywhere, having to clean her own up when she was still living at home with her abusive father. She was beginning to wonder whether his life at home was a safe and normal as everyone thought it was.
