Joe climbed out of the car early the next morning. He was going out to breakfast with his dad, Alice and Leah would be going to visit Alice's parents for the day so they had the house to themselves. They didn't know what they were going to do but that was the best part, they hadn't made any plans and they were just going to do whatever they wanted to. They entered a diner sitting down ordering what they wanted before they started talking.
"How is school going? Your mom told me your getting into fights." Paul stated Joe sighing looking down at the table slightly. He didn't really have any of his wounds on show, just the one above his eyebrow that was nearly healed and ready for the stitches to be remove.
"I'm better now, since I met Demi she's helping me change." Joe admitted, he didn't spend as much time at home now so it didn't give Gary much chance to do anything to him. He didn't need to be confident anymore either, he was learning how to cope with everything that was going on and Demi was to thank for that.
"You do know me and your mom still talk to each other about you mainly," Paul stated Joe shrugging his shoulders gently. "She knows there's something going on."
"I know she does but there isn't." Joe insisted, it was hard not to tell anyone or for something to just slip out but he was going to protect the women in his life including Demi. She had already been through what he's capable, she would have known if he hadn't got there in time. He knew it was unlikely he'd get to all five women before the police came but just the thought of losing one was enough to keep this away from everyone.
"And that hurts your mom because she knows there's something and you won't tell her. As a parent we'd like to think our children would come to us for anything but there's something with you going on as well as smoking." Joe looked up at him.
"You know?" Paul sighed nodding his head.
"Luckily for you your not a person that smells off it, I'm not going to tell you to stop because it's not something that will happen overnight but can you try and quit?"
"Demi is making me cut down and eventually quit." Joe admits.
"I definitely want to meet this girl one day." Joe laughed the smile staying on his face. He knew he was lucky to have someone like Demi in his life and even luckier that she liked him as much as he was starting to like her.
Denise got home from work that night hanging her coat up on the hooks slipping her shoes off. She could already smell the stench of alcohol throughout her house. She was used to the smell. She entered the living room where she saw her husband sat on the couch a can of beer in his hands, she couldn't help but roll her eyes.
"Hey Denise!" He slurred, Denise sighed knowing that he was drunk. He wasn't often drunk when she came home, he knew well enough but she knew about his drinking habit. She had tried to get him help before now but he doesn't want it and it's hard to give it to someone who doesn't want it.
"Come on Gary, you've had enough." Denise stated trying to take the can away from his hands but he just pulled it back.
"No!" He demanded pushing her down on the floor. Denise had to hold her tears back as she looked up at her husband who was now stood over her.
"N-Not tonight Gary." Denise begged.
"Why not? Joe isn't here, I need to use someone as a punching bag." He taunted a sly smirk on his face, Denise could see how much he enjoyed this.
"I-I told you already not to hurt my son!" She exclaimed screaming when she felt him slap her across the face.
She knew he wasn't getting into fights at school, she knew her own husband was harming her only son. He was using the same threat that he was with Joe, if she told anyone he would do more than harm her son.
