"J-Joe you of all people know he won't allow us to leave. We're trapped here under his abuse." Denise answered back but they both tried to keep their voices low so Gary wasn't able to hear them. That they were planning to leave. Joe sighed not helping but look down at Demi's flat stomach, he couldn't leave Demi here with his baby.
"Demi is pregnant," Joe breathed Denise looking between the two of them. "We had only done it once and I used protection I promise. I don't know what happened. I just can't leave Demi here where she could get hurt by him, he already tried to rape her once."
"We're going to the police station, go out to the car and I'll be there soon." Denise spoke in a slight whisper in case Gary as listening in on them. Joe nodded his head gently squeezing Demi's hand gently as he led her out into the garage climbing into the car placing the keys on the driver's seat hoping she wouldn't take too long.
"Are you happy about the baby?" Demi questioned looking up at him.
"At the moment no, not until I know both of you will be safe and at the moment you're not." Joe answered kissing her head. Demi sighed wrapping her arms around his middle Joe's arm going back around her kissing her head again comforting her. He wanted to be happy that he was going to become a dad but he didn't want to bring his son or daughter into a world where his or her's dad was being abused because he wasn't strong enough to do something about it. When he knew his child was safe and Demi too he would be happy about the baby. They were both knocked out of their thoughts when Denise opened the driver's door.
"I told him we're going shopping Joe, he doesn't know Demi is even here. I'll make sure your all safe." Denise promised Joe nodding his head gently as they exited the garage.
Joe, Demi and Denise both sat down in a questioning room with one police officer opposite them ready to take their statement. Demi had hold of Joe's hand knowing how hard it was going to be for him to tell someone what happened to him over the years. It had been five years now since Gary had started, he had put up with it until now.
"Your here to make a statement against Gary Harrison right?" Officer Brown questioned Joe nodding his head gently. "When did he start abusing you?"
"It was before he married mom, he started out just hitting me but over time it slowly got worse and harder. It got too much at once so I threatened back that I would tell mom or the police, that was when he threatened that if I told anyone he would murder mom and my sisters. I left it and that's where it has come to now." Joe explained.
"It's not usual for this to occur in a abusive family, for threats to happen but I can assure you if you told anyone like you have done now nobody would be murdered and nobody would be hurt any longer. When did he last touch you?"
"A couple of days ago now, closer to a week. I try and get out the house as much as I can, I was at my dad's this weekend." Joe answered.
"Would you mind us taking pictures of what he has done for evidence?" Joe shook his head gently, he knew it was just another step to getting Gary locked away. He knew his mom didn't want him in her life anymore, that she just wanted her children to be safe as well as herself. Joe left with officer Brown leaving Demi and Denise together. It was silent for a couple of minutes until Demi spoke looking up at the woman she didn't know.
"Is being a mom scary?" She questioned cracking a small smile when Denise took hold of her hand comforting her.
"Yes but it's also amazing, you'll get used to it and I know Joe will be behind you the whole way." Denise answered Demi not having to say anything else. She knew she wanted to be a mom, it wasn't the best timing but she knew she loved her child already.
