The next couple of days were tough for everyone including Joe who was still in his depressive state about everything that had happened. They had been trying to cheer him up but not much was working. He wanted to be happy knowing that they were all trying, he had two little boys on the way and he wanted to be better before their arrival. Demi thought she knew what would help him get through this. She entered the room seeing Joe packing his duffle bag, it was the day he would be leaving the hospital and going back home since the morning of the accident. It still felt weird that he had a bad migraine that morning and led to something much worse.
"Hey how are you feeling?" Demi questioned leaning up pecking his lips gently, Joe cracked a small smile laying his hands on her bump only smiling more when he felt one of his sons kick. Demi laid her hands on his a smile on her face too.
"I feel better now your here with my boys," Joe stated kissing her again. "I just wanna go home." Demi grabbed his hands as he tried to walk away.
"I know your down at the moment but I need you to try and cheer up a little bit, for the boys?" Joe nodded his head taking his hands back. "Have you spoken to Tom this morning?"
"Yeah he gave me his card and I can call him whenever I need to. I can book a appointment to see him when he isn't working in the hospital." Joe answered.
"I think it's something you need to do Joe, I wish I had the choice to talk to someone about what happened when I got out the situation with my dad." Demi explained.
"I just don't feel as if it's helping." Joe admitted.
"It might not do yet but eventually it will if you keep going with it." Demi encouraged.
"It just feels strange telling someone everything that I went though, I just want to forget it but I have to tell someone." Joe confessed.
"Joe do you want to get better?" Joe nodded his head. "Then I promise you if you keep going and speaking to Tom you'll get better." Joe could hear the seriousness in her voice he could see how much she cared and wanted him to get better.
"I-I just wanna be better for when the boys come but I doubt I will." Demi wondered over wrapping her arms around his middle. She leaned up kissing him gently.
"Our boys will love you whether your happy or not and so will I, I don't want you to think you have to struggle when you have so many people here to help you out." Demi expressed.
"I love you all too." Joe stated snaking his arms back around her kissing the top of her head. Demi smiled enjoying the embrace.
"Joe before we go in you should know something." Demi stated as she unlocked the door to their apartment. She turned around to face him already able to hear the noises in the apartment, it was confusing Joe.
"What are those noises?" Joe questioned.
"I have a surprise for you," She begun a smile on her face. "Puppies, two of them." Her smile only got wider as she saw a smile creep along his face.
"Why have you got me puppies?" Joe questioned again.
"Because I think they will help you with getting better. They'll give you the companionship you need," Demi begun. "Don't worry about the boys, Sarah has offered to take them for a couple of weeks when the boys are born until we're sure they'll be okay around them."
"Thank you Demi but are you sure we can look after two puppies and two babies?"
"Since when have we ever looked down at a challenge?" They both grinned at one another Demi grabbing Joe's hand dragging him inside where they saw two puppies come bounding over to them jumping up at them.
It was the first time since the incident happened that Demi saw a wide and real smile on Joe's face and not one that was forced.
