Joe was laid on his bed when there was a knock on the door. He didn't say anything but heard someone enter anyway but his back was facing the door so he didn't know who had entered. He didn't care. He had been looking forward to this weekend up until now when his father had lied to him about a girlfriend which was now a wife.
"Come on Joe don't let this ruin our weekend," Paul urged staying in the doorway sighing when he didn't answer him. He entered the room some more closing the door behind him sitting on the edge of the bed his son's back facing him as he laid a hand on his side . "Joe."
"You lied to us all," Joe mumbled. "When was the wedding?"
"A couple of weeks ago, it hasn't been long I promise." Paul answered Joe sighing this time staring down at the bed below him.
"That's not the point dad, where was I? Did you just not decide to invite your only son?" Paul sighed again knowing that he wasn't angry because he had got married but because he didn't know anything about it. He hoped he could cheer his son up and have a good weekend with him, it's not often they got to spend time together.
"I wanted you there Joe but it was in Paris and I didn't want to take you out of school, can we just push this behind us so we can have a good weekend?" Paul questioned Joe shrugging his shoulders gently which Paul saw out the corner of his eyes.
"We'll see." Paul leaned over kissing his head before standing up.
"Come down when you're ready." He heard his dad leave the room turning on his back when the door close now staring up at the ceiling.
Joe grabbed his phone not long later texting Demi just one word 'hey' it wasn't long until he felt his phone buzz in his hands knowing that Demi was calling him, he answered the call holding it up to his ear not able to say anything before she spoke.
"What's up? Where's my kisses on the end of the text." Joe cracked a small smile playing with the bed sheets with the hand that wasn't holding his phone against his ear.
"My dad got married a couple of weeks ago and didn't even tell me, I didn't know he had a girlfriend." Joe confessed, he didn't want to hold it against his dad.
"Oh." Demi stated.
"I wish you were here." Joe mumbled Demi smiling slightly but she didn't like to see him upset like this, he had been through so much and just wanted to see his smile or hear his laugh. It was better than hearing this tone of voice.
"No you don't, you want to spend time with your dad and don't let anything stop you from doing so. I'll be here Sunday when you come back and we'll spend the night together before school on Monday. I'm sure his wife is really nice, you just need to give her a chance." Demi encouraged, he knew that she was right. Both his Step mother and sister were probably really nice and he didn't give them the best welcoming just because of his feelings.
"Why are you always right?" Demi giggled over the phone a smile pulling at either side of Joe's mouth as it rung through his ears.
"Because I'm amazing, I'll see you Sunday Joe, have fun." She hung up the phone before he could get another word in. He took in a deep breath standing up slipping his phone in his jeans pocket before exiting the room. He needed to at least give them a chance, he couldn't be mad at his father forever, it just wasn't something that could happen. He made his way downstairs entering the kitchen where he saw his father chopping a onion next to a woman, he could see a girl about the same age as him sat at the counter doing her homework but they all looked in his direction when they noticed him there. He entered the room a little but more.
"Hi." He murmured.
