Y/N's back slammed against the dumpster.
She barely had time to draw a breath before her mentor lunged at her. Y/N struck back with a kick, but her leg was caught instantly in Blitzø's hand, which yanked her forward effortlessly. He grabbed her by the shirt and, with a sharp shove to the chest, sent her crashing onto the filthy alley floor.
As she struggled to breathe again, Y/N noticed her father was panting... but not from exhaustion. Blitzø released her, straightened up, and took a step back, waiting.
Blitzø: Again.
BANG!
The metal target toppled to the ground after taking a direct hit to the head.
Another one rose closer to Y/N, but before she could fire again, Moxxie raised a hand to stop her. HE took the gun from his apprentice and placed another in her hands: longer, heavier.
Y/N aimed and breathed.
The crack of gunfire no longer startled her.
BANG!
The pads of her paws scraped against the concrete as she landed on another rooftop.
Y/N got to her feet clumsily, trying to keep pace with Millie, who was already launching into a spinning leap toward the building across from them.
Y/N took a running start... but stumbled.
She didn't make it.
For a second, she saw her paws pointed at the red sky. Then, a sharp, painful tug on her tail stopped her fall. When she looked down, everything was upside down—her mentor had caught her and was hauling her back up with complete nonchalance.
Y/N studied the scratches on her body reflected in the bathroom mirror, disappointed.
She leaned closer to her reflection to examine her fangs, running her tongue over them. A low growl slipped from her throat.
Still unconvinced, she extended her claws and tried to strike a terrifying pose... but felt the tension in her shoulders.
Then, her expression shifted.
Her face lit up, and she shook herself.
She had barely recovered from the jolt when she had to duck to dodge a lemon.
She nearly lost her balance, but managed not to fall off Blitzø's desk.
She clutched the porcelain horse her mentor had entrusted to her, still intact.
The Imp, giving her no respite, plucked more lemons from the plant in his office and began hurling them at her while juggling them.
Y/N managed to dodge most of them, but her grip faltered.
The horse slipped through her fingers.
Without seeing the flash of terror on her father's face when she failed to catch it with her hands, the little hellhound lunged forward and caught it with her teeth.
Y/N pulled the pin with a sharp click, spat it onto the ground, and barely peeked out before launching the grenade.
Then she dove back behind the barrier beside Moxxie. Both of them covered their ears and tucked their tails at the blast thundered, sandbags bursting into a thousand pieces.
Y/N growled; the sand burned her eyes. Before she could rub them, Millie lunged at her.
She was forced backward as her wooden stick clashed against Millie's.
The pup's fingers ached as she blindly tried to reach her mentor, swinging the weapon without being able to see her clearly.
A blow to the legs sent her sprawling onto the ground. Millie followed with another strike to finish her off, but Y/N caught the stick just in time and stopped it.
