The lock clicked, and with it, both demons exhaled a sigh of relief at finally returning home.
Loona spun around as soon as they entered, covering her naked, bandaged torso with the jacket Blitzø had given her. It was too small, barely covering her arms, and more like a shawl draped over her shoulders than a garment.
But when she looked up, they both stopped.
The lights were off. Everything appeared undisturbed, perfectly in place as it should. Total silence. No sound, no movement.
They blinked at the same time.
Loona: ...She ran away to find me, didn't she?
Blitzø: Fucking dang it...
Blitzø spun around, frustrated, and went straight to turn on the light. In his haste, he bumped into Loona.
Loona: Ow!
The spotlight snapped on, dazzling them. They both squinted at the sudden glare in the middle of the night.
The Imp struggled to pull the van keys out of the inside pocket of his jacket—which was currently covering Loona's. She barely allowed him to do so, limping, trying not to put weight on her injured leg as they both made their way into the apartment, bumping into each other clumsily.
Loona: Ow! This isn't the first time she's run off to do whatever she wants. Didn't you think she'd do this?!
Blitzø: I knew it! I fucking knew this would happen, it was obvious! She's probably already got herself into—AAH!
He stepped on his own tail and fell face first onto the floor. Luckily, he let go of his daughter in time, who barely held on with one hand against the wall, huffing and puffing.
Loona fixed her fringe, still disheveled. The fur on the back of her neck prickled as she imagined that pup alone... running into demons like Rex out there.
Loona: We have to find her...
Blitzø's face lifted off the ground with a groan, like an old sticker.
Blitzø: She couldn't have gotten far being so small.
Loona: She chased your van all the way to the prince's palace...
Blitzø: Fuck! Damn those short, fast legs!
He hurriedly got up from the floor, dusting himself off with rage and urgency.
Loona: Let's go back to the van.
Blitzø: Nonono. I'll go find her, you need to rest.
The hellhound half-opened her mouth, ready to protest. But then, something in her clicked: her ears pricked up, alert.
Loona: Maybe she's just asleep. It's the middle of the night.
They both shifted toward the door of the room Loona and Y/N shared. They stared at each other for a moment... and then broke into a run. They struggled with the handle, getting in each other's way out of their nerves and haste.
The door gave way with a loud bang—even though it wasn't even locked—and the two almost hit the floor again. They raised their heads at the same time... and froze.
The mattress and Loona's bed were perfectly untouched. Empty. Cold.
Blitzø let out a hoarse, exhausted groan.
Blitzø: Great! It's empty!
Loona: How long could she have been gone?
Blitzø: I left in the morning...
