Y/N: You guys came all the way down here from Heaven?
Collin let Keenie and Cletus keep pushing Lyle's stretcher down the trail while he turned toward the little girl. His tiny wings gave a couple of eager flutters.
Collin: That's right! Our job is to travel from the Kingdom of God to care for humans, love them, and guide them down the right path.
The little apprentice tilted her head.
Y/N: The right path? So... like... when they get lost?
The little sheep cherub's ears immediately perked up. He nodded eagerly and began fluttering around the disguised hellhound, unable to hide his excitement.
Collin: Exactly! Lots of humans lose their way and fall into temptation. Sometimes all they need is a little nudge to remind them what's right.
A mocking snort came from behind them.
Blitzø, who was still bare-chested as he awkwardly hopped into an oversized furry costume alongside the rest of the team, quickly looked away with exaggerated innocence when the cherubs glanced back at him. The tip of his tail swayed smugly as he hurried to catch up.
Collin simply ignored him.
Collin: Though most of the time, we're called to protect a human's life.
Y/N's eyes lit up.
Y/N: Oh! Like a bodyguard!
Collin hesitated, making a small gesture with one hoof as his ears drooped.
Collin: Uhh... "guardian angel" would be the proper term.
Keenie stepped forward with a slightly embarrassed smile.
Keenie: They actually belong to a different denomination than we do. They're much closer to humans.
She absently scratched the wool behind one ear before continuing.
Keenie: So... well... their work doesn't always go as planned. That's why some people turn to us instead, since we've been entrusted with greater power... and a closer connection to the Divine.
The little girl nodded, staring at the winged creatures in amazement.
Y/N: So... sinners from Heaven pay you guys to help the target?
Collin and Keenie laughed at the same time.
Several feet behind them, Blitzø glanced up while tugging one sleeve of his costume into place, shooting them a glare sharp enough to cut steel.
Keenie: Oh, how adorable. We call those angels Winners.
Collin: And, well... sometimes they do offer us money. But our services are always free.
Y/N stared at them with a baffled smile.
Y/N: You work for free?
Blitzø barked out a laugh.
Blitzø: HA! And these assholes still say Heaven's the good place.
Moxxie, who was busy adjusting the fake cat nose on his wife's costume, barely looked up.
Moxxie: Sounds more like labor exploitation to me.
Blitzø finally managed to squeeze himself into the rest of the lion costume, stumbling over the massive pile of fabric dragging behind him. As he walked past Moxxie, he nudged him with a friendly elbow.
