The Day Before the Concert

Chloe had set her alarm for 6 am because she had to be up before Beca. She decided to make pancakes for breakfast, Beca's favorite. Beca woke up around 8, and Chloe helped her get ready. After they ate, they took a cab to the hospital. They had to wait about an hour in the waiting room until the doctor could take them.

When they got in the room, Chloe helped Beca get onto the table. She sat down until Dr. Erin came in. "Hey, Erin," Beca said upon seeing the doctor.

"Hey, Beca. How ya feeling?" Erin smiled. Beca was just a little ray of sunshine.

"Actually a lot better. My ankle still hurts really bad, and I've been icing it since about 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon. I had a headache yesterday morning and I took some aspirin and now I'm fine. My wrist actually hasn't been bothering me that much."

"Ok," Erin said. "The headaches should be normal for a few days, but we'll check out your ankle. It should have stopped hurting by today." Erin carefully took the bandage off of Beca's foot. "Wow, it's really bruised."

Chloe sat up. "Oh my god, Becs," she said.

"I knew it was bruised," Beca shrugged.

"Let's take some x-Rays," Erin said, pulling out the X-ray camera. After the pictures appeared on the screen, Erin looked up at Beca sadly. "I hate to tell you this, but there's a minor break."

"What?" Beca said. "It can't be. I have to be able to perform at my concert tomorrow. I can't be in a wheelchair."

"Beca, relax," Chloe said, "I'm sure they can give you a boot."

"We WERE going to give you a boot," Erin paused. "Boots are for sprains and breaks that have been healing. I have to give you a cast."

"Is there some way I can be out of a wheelchair? I can't put on a concert when I'm sitting."

"There is another option," Erin said.

Beca and Chloe glanced at her. Beca chuckled. "I'll take anything."

"It's a hands free crutch. We haven't tried it on a patient yet, and I read that it's hard to use and takes practice, but if it gets you to that concert, then it's worth it."

"Hook me up," Beca said with a grin.

Erin laughed. "I'm assuming a black cast."

"Yep."

Erin wrapped Beca's cast and got the crutch out of the closet. Beca stood up and put her knee into the crutch. She strapped her upper leg into the crutch. It was basically an extension of her leg. She tried to take a step with Chloe's help. She was a little off balance, but she mostly got it. She kept walking around the room with Chloe's help until she could walk by herself. She took a few steps and smiled. "I think I'm good!" She said.

"My work here is done," Erin laughed.

"C'mon, Chlo, let's go buy a new car," Beca said.

While they were in the car, Anna texted Beca.

How'd the doctor go?

Beca sent Anna a picture of her cast.

Ohhhh... So is it broken?

They said it's a minor break. I get a boot in a week.

Oh my god how are you gonna perform?

They gave me a weird hands free crutch. I kinda suck at it.

Hey it's better than not performing. What time should I meet you tomorrow?
