3 months into the pregnancy, and Anna was absolutely miserable. She had never been in so much pain. She could barley move.
Ben tried to be home as much as possible, but he had to go on a business trip every other weekend, so Chloe was often staying with her while Beca and Jesse were looking for a house. Harper was at school most of the time.
Chloe got to Anna's house and walked in. "Hey, Anna! How are you feeling?"
"Miserable. I have a doctor's appointment and I feel like I can't move." Anna groaned. "I have to deal with this for six months?"
Chloe sympathetically smiled. "Aww, Anna. It'll be ok. We got you."
"Thanks, now we gotta go because I have to be at the doctor in ten minutes. I'm in so much pain right now. It's really bad, Chlo. I could literally pass out from how bad it hurts."
"Ok. We'll get you to the doctor."
Anna got up off the couch and Chloe helped her put her shoes on.
When they got to the doctor, Anna was in tears because of the pain. Erin was pretty concerned. "This isn't normal, Anna. How long have you been feeling like this?"
"This morning, I was feeling really shitty and I'm in so much pain. I cried all the way here. I don't know what's going on, and I'm really worried."
"Erin, is she ok?" Chloe asked.
"I don't know yet. I'm going to do an ultrasound, and we'll see."
Anna took a deep breath. "Ok."
Erin took the ultrasound and Chloe knew something was wrong when she pulled her aside with tears in her eyes. "Chloe, she's had a miscarriage."
Chloe's eyes welled up with tears. "All three?"
"Yeah. It's common with triplets, Chlo. Especially if the mother isn't too physically strong."
Tears were rolling down Chloe's face. "Are you going to tell her, or do you want me to?"
"She'll take it better from you."
"Ok." Chloe wiped the tears out of her eyes, and she took a deep breath. She sat down on the edge of the hospital bed. "Anna, we have some bad news. This is really hard...sweetie...um you had a miscarriage. All 3 of them." Chloe was crying as she watched her friend burst into tears. Anna couldn't say a word. Chloe ended up dragging her out of the hospital because she couldn't function.
When they got back to Anna's house, Anna collapsed on the couch and sobbed. Chloe sat down next to her. "I'm so sorry Anna. This makes me so upset. You were...we were all looking forward to the kids."
Anna sobbed into Chloe's shoulder. She tried to speak, but she was crying too much. Instead, she choked on the tears. Chloe tried to keep herself together. "Shhh, it's ok. It's gonna be ok. You just have to calm down. We're going to call Ben. It will be ok."
"I can't talk to Ben, I want Beca."
"Ok, honey. I'll have Beca come over. Just breathe. Do you want something to eat?"
"Right now I feel like I'm going to throw up. I can't eat anything. I want Beca to come."
"Ok. I'm calling her."
Hey, Becs
Hey, you ok? You sound like you've been crying.
Well I'm not the only one who's been crying. Anna needs you to come over.
What's wrong?
Chloe whispered quietly. Becs, she had a miscarriage. All 3 of them. She's hurting a lot right now. You need to come.
Of course. Jess can pick up Harper. Should I bring anything?
No, just try to keep your shit together because I've already lost it twice, and it's killing her.
Ok, I'll be over as soon as possible.
Beca hung up the phone and sat down next to Jess. "Um, Jess, I'm going to Anna's. She's had a miscarriage." Beca was already crying. She understood the fear of that. She didn't know what she would do without Harper.
"Ok. Tell her I'm sorry. That's really sad, Becs. I'll pick up Harper. Stay there as long as you want. We'll be here."
He gave a hug to his girlfriend, and he watched her walk out the door. He thought it was funny how she tried to be such a badass, but there were some things that would make her emotional, and no one could fix that.
Beca knocked on the door, and Chloe let her in. "Hey, Becs. She wont stop crying. I can barely keep it together. I don't know what to do."
Beca put her purse down. "Ok. I'll talk to her. Can you go get us some food, I haven't eaten all day."
"Yeah."
After Chloe left, Beca sat down on the edge of the couch. "Hey, Anna. Sit up for 2 seconds for me?"
Anna sat up and Beca slid closer to her and wrapped her in a tight hug. She sat there for a minute listening to Anna's quiet sobs. She wasn't very good in situations like this. She couldn't emphasize with Anna, so it was difficult for her. "Chloe...um said you needed some company."
Anna nodded. "Yeah...t-thanks for c-coming."
Beca wrapped a blanked around her friend. "You cold?"
Anna nodded and rested her head on Beca's shoulder. Beca sat there for about 20 minutes. "You wanna listen to some music, Anna?"
Anna didn't say a word. She was sound asleep. Beca slowly got up and walked over to the piano in the corner. She sat down on the bench and played the only song she knew by heart: Can't Help Falling In Love by Elvis Presley. She hadn't played a piano in over 6 years. It just didn't interest her that much, and only Chloe knew she had played. Beca hadn't noticed Anna had woken up until she felt a hand on her shoulder. "I didn't know you played, Becs."
Beca spun around to see Anna standing there. "Yeah, only Chloe knows. I quit 6 years ago. I guess I just lost interest in it. That's the only song I remember."
Anna smiled. Her crying had slowed down a little bit. "It's beautiful, Becs. That's my favorite song. I know the background part. Let's do a duet."
Anna sat down on the bench next to Beca, and they played the song. It was amazing, and Beca was happy she had found something that cheered her up. After the song was finished, Beca got up to get her phone to record it. She must have turned wrong on her knee because literally 2 seconds later, she was on the ground. "Ok. Wow. Um. I'm ok. It was just a fall." She knew it wasn't just a fall but she didn't want to admit it.
Anna stood over her. "You ok?"
Beca sat up. "Yeah I'm fine." She stood up and took a step. Her knee completely buckled, and she stumbled.
"Becs, something's wrong. I think it's sprained." Anna helped her friend to the couch.
Beca's knee was killing her. "No, it's ok."
"Beca, it's not ok. I'm taking you to the doctor. I'll get you some ice. It's already getting swollen."
Beca groaned. "Fine." She got up and limped to the car. She did agree with Anna.
