Beca sat in the waiting room of the hospital while Jesse talked with the doctor. She hadn't talked to Chloe or Anna yet, so she decided to call Chloe.
Hey Chlo
Where are you? I just got home
Can you come to the ER?
Oh my God we can't even make it 2 days. What happened?
Harper fell off the swings and she popped an artery in her head, so they have to go in and fix it, and Chlo, it's all my fault and I feel like shit about it. Beca burst into tears.
Beca, don't cry. I'll be right there.
Ok.
See you.
Beca texted Anna.
Hey, we're at the ER. She popped an artery in her head. Jesse's here with me.
Ok. I'm coming over there now. Do you need anything?
No I'm ok. I'm just worried.
It'll be ok.
Thanks
See you soon
Right after Beca put her phone away, Jesse walked up to her. "The doctor wants to see you," he said nervously.
Beca got up and walked over to the doctor. "Ok," he said, "so I just talked to your husband, an-"
Beca cut him off. She was sick of the confusion. "Boyfriend."
The doctor continued. "It's a three hour surgery. It's pretty risky, but there's no other option. It was a freak accident. There was nothing you could have done. She's about to go into surgery, so you can go get your boyfriend to talk to her for a minute."
Beca got Jesse and walked over to the hospital bed that her little girl was laying on. Beca spoke first, and it was hard for her because she was crying so much. "Hi, Harper, my sweetie. You're gonna be ok. Daddy and I will be out there waiting for you in a little while, ok."
Beca was sobbing, and her precious little girl tried to comfort her. "it's ok mama. I love you."
Beca stepped back so Jesse could talk to her. "Hi, sweetie. I love you so much, and we'll be waiting for you." Jesse was also getting emotional. "We'll see you later, sweetie."
Beca walked out of the room with Jesse, but turned around. "I love you my Harper." Then she walked out of the room.
She started sobbing into Jesse's shoulder when they got out of the room. "Jesse, that could be the last time she gets to hear me say I love her. That could be the last time she hears her name. She may never see us again, and I can't live knowing that's my fault."
"Beca, the doctor said it was a freak accident. You couldn't have done anything , sweetie. And she'll see us again. I promise. In 4 hours, we can go in and see our baby girl."
Beca sat down in the waiting room, and she cried until Chloe came and sat down next to her. "I got you something, Becs." She handed her a chocolate malt from Hardy's. That was secretly her favorite.
"Thanks, Chlo," she said, wiping away her tears and hugging her friend. "She just went in ten minutes ago."
Chloe squeezed her friend tightly. "And she'll come out in 3 hours and 50 minutes."
Beca took a sip of her malt. "This is all my fault. I wasn't watching her that well."
"Beca, none of this was your fault. It was a freak accident." Chloe rubbed her friend's leg.
Jesse was pacing around the room, and he wouldn't sit down. Chloe glanced at her purse. "Hey, I'm gonna go call Aubrey, Emily, and Stacie."
Stacie was Beca's closest friend from the Bella's besides Chloe, and Emily and Beca had gotten really close senior year. Anna walked in the second Chloe left the room. She was also holding a chocolate malt from Hardy's. "I got you something, but I think you're good."
Beca giggled quietly. "It's the thought that counts. Jesse can have it. Thanks so much for coming."
"I wouldn't be anywhere else than with my best friend." Anna gave a hug. "Any news?"
"Well," Beca said, "she just went in 20 minutes ago. The doctor said it's a risky surgery, but she has to have it. I'm just upset that it's all my fault."
"Becs, none of it was your fault, and you know that. I know the little Angel is gonna be ok."
"Ok. I'm gonna try to calm down a bit. I've been feeling really nauseous all day."
"It's probably just nerves."
Chloe came back into the room. "They can't make it. Stacie's stuck at work, Bri is stuck at the resort, and Emily has finals, but they said they're praying and to text them."
Beca glanced up at Chloe. "Ok."
"It's ok. They're praying.
"I know Chlo."
The next few hours went by really slow for Beca, but when the doctor asked for the parents, Beca jumped up so fast, she almost knocked the chair over. Chloe got up, too, but she was quickly told that only the parents were allowed. Beca turned to Chloe, who looked really upset. "It's ok, Chlo. I'll let you know as soon as possible."
Beca and Jesse met the doctor outside of the room. "Ok," he said. "It was pretty critical for a while. It was risky, and she's still in critical condition, but she's up, and you can see her."
Beca walked into the room with a nervous smile on her face. "Hi, baby girl," she whispered. "I'm glad you're ok. How are you feeling?"
"Good," she answered, but Beca knew she was in pain.
Jesse sat down on the edge of the bed. "Hi, sweetie. I love you!"
"I love you too daddy."
The little girl was smiling so wide at the sight of her parents. But after 20 minutes, she began to get impatient. "I wanna see Aunt Chloe and Aunt Anna."
"Ok, sweetie," Beca said, pressing the button to call the doctor in.
The doctor walked into the room. And Beca stood up. "She wants to see her Aunts."
"Ok," the doctor said. "She can see them, but one at a time."
Beca ran out of the room to get them. "Chlo, Anna, you can see her, but the doctor said one at a time."
Anna glanced at Chloe. "Go ahead Chlo, she's more comfortable with you."
Chloe got up and visited with the little girl for awhile. Then Anna got up and did the same.
Harper had to stay in the hospital for 3 weeks, and it was probably Beca's hardest 3 weeks. She was there every second she could be, except for at night, when she and Jesse switched off staying with her.
She was finally allowed to go home after awhile.
