Chloe ran to catch up with her, and Anna tried to keep up as best as she could.
"Beca," Chloe said, "You can't live your life afraid to talk to this guy."
"Chloe, I'm not talking to him, and I don't want to see him."
"What if you don't have to?" Chloe had an idea.
"What do you mean?"
"Well I'm sure you have questions for him, so I'll talk to him."
"Ok, just make sure you let him know how upset I am."
"What are you going to do?" Anna said as she came up to the girls.
"I'm going to talk to Jesse," Chloe said.
"Yeah, I guess it's a a good plan," Beca said.
"Ok!" Chloe said. "Beca, you and Anna can go to the bathroom or some store where you know Jesse won't be, and I'll go talk to Jesse."
"Sounds good!" Anna said.
"Don't mess up, Beale," Beca winked at the taller girl as she walked off.
"Hey let's go to Victoria's Secret," Anna said. "Jesse won't be in there."
"Dude, I'm not going to a store that sells bras and underwear. That's a stupid waste of space."
"Fine," Anna said. "We can go to Sephora. I never got my foundation."
"Sounds good, we just have to make sure we don't run into Jesse."

After about ten minutes in Sephora, Chloe called Anna.
Hey what's up?

Jesse wants to talk to Beca.

No! He can't. She'll be too upset.

Just...where are you guys? I'll send him in your direction.

Fine, we're at Sephora. What am I supposed to tell her?

I don't know. I figured it'd be better if you told her face to face instead of me on the phone.

Ok fine.

Bye

Bye

"Hey, Becs," Anna said, crutching toward her friend, "I just talked to Chloe, and Jesse wants to talk to you."
"No!" Beca looked upset. "I can't talk to him."
"I'll stick by your side, and Chloe's going to try and get here before he does."
"You don't get it. You're married. You don't have to worry about him dumping you through text."
"My first boyfriend dumped me through text too," Anna said. "I get how upset you are. It sucks."
"Ok so he should be here in about 30 seconds," Chloe ran in. "Gosh, I'm out of breath. Act natural," she said looking through the clearance bin.
"Beca!" Jesse said.
"Hey," Beca said with no enthusiasm.
"About what I said..." Beca cut him off.
"There's no excuse for what you said, Jesse."
"Listen, I was drunk that night, and I didn't think, and I've been trying to call you and tell you, but you won't return any of my calls."
"It's cause I blocked your number."
"Beca, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to send that text. I get that you were busy, and I can't believe what I did."
"I get it. People do dumb things when they're drunk."
"Beca, I just wanted to say how sorry I am. And, if you would be ok, I want to get back together."
"We can give it a shot," Beca said quietly.

Jesse smiled
"Cool!"
"Hey what are you here for anyway?"
"I'm scoring a movie that's shooting here."
"Cool."
"Well I gotta get going to the set," but I'll text you."
"Great! See you soon!"

"Oh my gosh I'm so happy for you," Anna said jumping up and down on her good foot.
"Beca, this is amazing!!!" Chloe said happily.
Anna's phone buzzed.
"Oh it's Ben. He wants to meet for dessert at Magnolia. Do you guys want to come?"
"Yeah," Beca said. "I'll text Jesse."
Hey do you want to meet for cupcakes at Magnolia with Anna, her husband, and Chloe.

Yeah sure.

See u in a few.

Jesse got to Magnolia at the same time as the girls."Ben's running a few minutes late."
"Hi, you must be Anna," he said.
"Yeah it's nice to meet you. I've heard a lot about you," Anna said.
"Hey, what happened to your leg?" Jesse asked.
"Oh, I slipped at Whole Foods," Anna said, laughing.
"That sucks," Jesse said. "Usually Beca's the klutz," he smiled at his girlfriend.
"Hey," Ben said, walking in. He stopped and gave Anna a kiss.
"How's your leg, sweetie?" He asked.
"Fine, actually," Anna said happily.
Chloe felt out of place. She was basically a third wheel.

On the way home, Chloe turned down Beca's music.
"Hey, Becs, I need a boyfriend."
"Why?" Beca asked. Chloe had never mentioned this before.
"I feel like a third wheel with you and Jesse and Anna and Ben."
"We were all just friends hanging out. It's not like it was a date or anything."
"But I still want a boyfriend."
"Weren't you dating that guy at Barden. Justin? Right?"
"Oh we broke up senior year."
"Which senior year?" Beca giggled.
"The first one."
"Oh I'm sorry."
"We weren't that serious anyway."
"Chlo, if you want to meet people, you have to go out."
"I don't have any time. I'm always at work or out with you and Anna."
"Maybe we can go out somewhere where you can meet people."
"I guess."
