They watched Friends until the doctor came in to put Beca's cast on. "This is up to you girls on what color it should be," she said. The doctor was pretty nice. She was about Anna's age, and she was really nice to the girls.
"Black," they said in unison.
The doctor laughed. "I'll give you girls some silver markers to decorate it. She'll like reading the notes when she wakes up."
After she finished wrapping the cast, she sat down on the couch. "I'm on break, let's hang out."
"Thanks, Dr. Comb," Chloe smiled. She was happy that someone wanted to talk to the girls.
"No problem. You and Anna inspire me. You're so close with someone who may or may not even be able to hear you right now. It's amazing what great friends you are. And call me Erin. So tell me about Beca."
Anna laughed, "Chloe's known her way longer than me."
"Start from the beginning. I have 2 hours off, and I want to hear about this girl. She seems interesting."
"So I met her at Barden University in Georgia. Me and my friend Aubrey had to restart our acapella group. I was a junior and she was a freshman. She didn't seem too interested, but I caught her singing in the shower and I barged into her stall and we sang Titanium together. She auditioned and Aubrey and I took her. She basically turned us around and helped us win everything. I have nodules, and she helped me get my voice back...twice...they came back. She's so important to me. I failed senior year on purpose 3 times so I could be with her. We moved to New York so I could be an interior designer. I actually lost my voice for like an entire month, and that's how we met Anna."
"Yeah," Anna continued, "Chloe designed my living room, and Beca was helping her with the talking part. Then we saw each other at Taco Bell. We started talking and we all realized we have a lot in common. Both of them have been such a help to me since I broke my leg last month."
"She seems so nice," Erin said.
"You really don't think so at first," Chloe smiled. "Her personality is different. She is really an introvert, except with people she's really close with. She's that badass that wears all black and an ear spike and is always listening to music. I actually got her to wear a dress for the first time 2 nights ago. We went on a triple date, and her boyfriend didn't show up, but she was ok. Yesterday was my birthday, and she and Anna surprised me. She's so thoughtful."
"I wish I had friends like that." Erin smiled at Anna and Chloe.
"You do now!" Anna smiled.
Chloe looked at Beca and then at Erin. "Erin, I can't lose her." She started crying. "She's my best friend, I can't do this without her. She means so much to me. I can't stand to see her like this. I don't even know if She'll wake up, but if she does, how much will she actually remember of me?" Chloe was sobbing. Erin hugged her new friend, and Anna was rubbing Chloe's knee, crying.
Erin was getting emotional. She knew how hard it was to lose her best friend. "I'm so sorry, Chloe. I'm 60% sure Beca has a shot. I know how hard it is to lose your best friend. My best friend Miranda died in a fire three years ago. I have to get back to work. It was nice talking to you. I'll come back with the sharpies as soon as I can."
"Thanks, Erin," Chloe said through the tears.
It was already 5 in the evening. Anna looked at the clock. "Do you want some dinner? We can go to Olive Garden."
"I'm ok. Can you stop home and feed ginger for me?"
"Yeah, thanks so much. I'll go down to the cafeteria when I get hungry."
"Ok, bye."
Chloe decided to text Aubrey,
Hi.Hey. How's Beca?
Minor brain damage, so she might not remember everything, but we'll help her out. She also has a sprained ankle that should be healed in about a week, and her wrist is broken and it will take 2 months to heal. It's a pretty bad break.
Ok, at least her breathing is ok.
What have you been doing all day?
Nothing much. I've been sitting around praying and watching tv.
Oh ok. Do you wanna stop by?
Yeah I'll come over. Do you need anything?
No. I'm ok. If I'm asleep, just wake me up.
K bye.
Aubrey came over and brought Chloe some pasta from Olive Garden. "Oh thank god," Chloe said dramatically taking the ravioli from Aubrey. "Anna was gonna stop, but I didn't want to cause her any trouble." Aubrey sat down on the end of the bed, rubbing Beca's leg. "Careful," Chloe looked up, "that's her bad ankle."
"Oh shit," Aubrey said, pulling her hand away.
"No I'm sure it's fine, it probably makes it feel better, but just be gentle." Chloe smiled. "Thanks for coming out here. I'm sure Beca will say yes to the aca-reunion when she wakes up."
"I really hope she'll be ok."
"I really don't know. Nothing's changed since yesterday. I think I'll stay here again tonight."
"I figured you would. I should get going. I'm really tired."
"Me too. Text me."
"Bye."
Chloe fell asleep within minutes of Aubrey leaving.
