The next 2 years were fairly uneventful. Harper started walking at 10 months, and Beca couldn't have been happier. Her first word was at 3 months, and she said Chlo. Chloe was pretty excited, but Beca was excited and a little upset that mama wasn't her first word. The worst thing though, was that Anna got diagnosed with cancer, and was still fighting. She wasn't very healthy, but she stayed strong because she knew she could beat it.
Today was the day. It was Harpers first day of preschool. "Bye, Harp. Have an amazing day! I'll see you soon." Beca had tears in her eyes.
"Bye mama. Tell Aunt Chloe I said bye. I love you."
Harper gave a hug to her mom, then walked into school.
Beca climbed back in her car and drove home. She and Chloe cleaned the house until it was time to pick up Harper. Chloe decided to come with. "Hi momma, hi Aunt Chloe." Beca was in love with Harpers cute little voice.
"Hi sunshine!" Beca lifted up her daughter and spun her around.
"Momma I have homework!" Harper said with a smile.
"Ok! We'll start on that when we get home.
Beca buckled Harper in her booster seat and climbed into the car. Chloe got in and put on the radio until Harper spoke up. "Momma, do I have a daddy?"
Beca didn't know what to say. She thought for a minute before Chloe turned and rubbed her shoulder. "Becs, you gotta say something."
"Yes, Harper, you have a daddy."
"Where is he?"
"He's far away in California."
"Why doesn't he come and pick me up from school?"
"Because he lives far away."
"Why does he live far away?"
"I haven't seen your daddy in a long time."
"Why?"
"Harper, do you know when you have a fight with your friends?"
"Yeah. We say sorry."
"Well it's kind of like that, but with grownups, and some of the time we don't say sorry. That's why we don't see your daddy."
"Do I know daddy?"
"Not really. You haven't seen him in a long time."
"Are you and daddy married like my friends mommy and daddy's?"
"No, sweetie. We never got married."
"Oh. Is that why we live with Aunt Chloe."
"Yep. That's part of the reason."
"I wish I had a sister like you and Chloe are sisters."
"Chloe and I aren't sisters, silly. We're best friends."
"That's cool. Mommy I'm hungry."
"We'll go home and get you a snack."
"Ok."
Beca smiled sadly. Her daughter was so innocent. She didn't want her to end up like her one day. She wanted Harper to find a guy who puts up with her when she's in a bitchy mood. The innocence was adorable, but she was worried. She knew Harper wanted to know her daddy. She decided to change the subject. "Harper, after you finish your homework, Aunt Chloe is going to take you to the mall."
"Are you gonna come?"
"No. I'm going over to Auntie Anna's house today."
"Ok."
