"Chlo, we have to go to the hospital right now. Ben doesn't know how much longer she has. Come on Harper it's an emergency."
Harper followed her mom through the restaurant until they got in the car. Beca had tears rolling down her face. "Momma what's wrong?" Beca couldn't handle anything right now. She could barely breathe.
Chloe knew she had to say something. "Harper, me and your mom are very upset right now. Auntie Anna's in the hospital ok." She tried her best to say it nicely.
Beca whispered quietly. "How do I explain the concept of death to a 3 year old?"
Chloe whispered back. "I don't know, Becs, I'm calling Aubrey."
Hey Aubrey how fast can you get here?
3 hours.
Please hurry Anna's in the hospital and we don't know if she's gonna make it.
Ok I'm there. Tell Anna to hang in there.
Beca pulled into the hospital and got Harper out of the car. They were shown to their room, only to have Ben pull them aside. "She turned down life support because she doesn't think it will help her. I'm trying to convince her to stay on it, but it's not working, please talked to her."
Chloe walked over to the bad. Her friend's breathing was light, almost gone. "Hey, Anna, promise me something. If the doctor comes in while you're still here, please ask for life support. You can beat this."
"I don't know if it will work."
"So, you have to try. Beca come here."
Beca picked up her daughter. "Auntie Anna, will you be ok?" Harpers innocence killed her.
"I'll be ok, angel. I'll go up to heaven, and I'll feel better."
"But I don't want you to leave."
"I don't want to leave either, angel, but it's best for me."
"Will I see you again?"
"Yes. In a very long time."
Harper started to cry. Anna couldn't watch her cry. "Don't cry, my angel. You're gonna go on and do great things like your mommy. It will be ok I promise. So promise me that you'll always be a good girl for momma and Aunt Chloe because they love you so much, and I love you so much."
Beca's phone rang, so she grabbed Harper and walked out of the room.
Hey Aubrey.
Is she ok?
I don't know. She doesn't want to go on life support, so she doesn't have much time left.
I can't make the flight. It's full. The next one is in three hours.
Take that one. I'll have one of my meet and greet friends take Harper home. She needs to go to bed soon.
Ok. I'll be there as soon as I can.
Bye.
Beca thought of the girl she most trusted and decided to call Eryn
Hey, Eryn do you babysit?
Yeah. Why?
So you know Anna has cancer, well it took a turn for the worse, and I don't know how much time she has left, and Harper needs to go to bed.
I'll be right over. Which hospital?
34th street. Thanks so much.
When Beca and Harper walked back in the room, Chloe was talking to Anna.
"Chlo, please stay the same way you are now. Your optimism and happiness inspired me every day. Don't change. And you'll find someone some day. And I'm going to see your 5 redhead children running through that house. And I want you to tell them about me. And how I was more badass than Beca Effin Mitchell, and how I had a broken leg for almost a year, and everything. Because I want them to picture me as the badass aunt I am in my head."
"Ok, Anna."
Beca sat down. Anna smiled that cute little smile and started talking. "Beca, you've taught me so much. You've showed me what it is to truly fight, and that's why I'm still here right now. You're a wonderful mom, and an amazing friend. I don't know what I would do without you. You have a beautiful daughter, and I want you, Chloe and her to all speak at my funeral. Even if she doesn't say much, it would mean the world to me. Don't give up on finding someone. You're amazing. And please, think about taking Jesse back. I've seen the way you look at him. You're still in love. We all want you two together. You're Beca and Jesse together you're Jeca. Your daughter wants to know her dad. We all want it, Becs. You can't live your life regretting the fact that you didn't want him back. I don't want to die regretting the fact that I didn't go on life support, but I am."
Beca cut her off. "Ben get the doctor she wants to go on life support!!!"
The doctor ran into the room and hooked up the machines that were helping Anna live. Anna smiled. "I have a chance, Beca. Thank you."
"No, you're going to live. We all have faith."
Eryn walked in the room. "You guys look happy."
"She's back on life support!" Beca ran and gave a hug to Eryn. "Thanks so much for watching her!"
"No problem, what do you need me to do."
"Ok, so you have a car right?"
"Yeah."
"Ok, so if you would, can you take her back to our place. She can go to bed around 8. Chlo or I might come home tonight, but we'll see. If not, she usually gets up around 7:30 and school starts at 9 so be there at 8:45. I'll text you the address. Wait...but you have school."
"I'm starting next week."
"Ok. Thank you so much for everything. I really appreciate it."
"It's no problem. I hope you're feeling better, Anna."
"Harper, Eryn is going to take you home, and mommy and Aunt Chloe are going to stay here ok?"
"Ok momma. Love you."
Harper walked out with Eryn, and Beca, Chloe, and Ben stayed with Anna.
A week later, Anna beat cancer, and a month later, she was able to go home. Beca and Chloe came over every day to help her out. She still had to rebuild most of her strength. Her hair started growing back, too. Harper was happy that one of her favorite people was ok.
