Chloe freaked out. "Ok. I have the bag, the keys, and the phones. Come on Becs, get in the car."
Chloe helped Beca into the car as fast as she could. She called Jesse, against Beca's wishes.
Jesse it's Chloe.What's up?
Beca's having the baby
Oh cool
You're not coming?
She doesn't want me there, and I don't want a child.
Jesse you need to come see the birth of your child.
Beca doesn't want me
Yeah because crying herself to sleep every night shows how much she doesn't want you.
I'm not coming
You are the worst father on the face of the earth. Why did Beca ever waste her time with you?!?
Chloe hung up the phone and listened to Beca's screaming as she rushed her best friend into the hospital. The doctor pulled out a wheelchair and Chloe followed them into the room. The doctor turned towards Chloe. "Where's the father?"
"The father isn't here. They're not on speaking terms and he's not coming."
"Who are you."
"I'm her sister," Chloe lied, knowing they wouldn't let her stay if she wasn't family.
"Ok. You can stay in here. Try to calm her down. She's not ready yet."
"Ok."
Beca spoke through the screams. "You're not my sister."
"I had to lie so they'd let me stay. Jesse's not coming."
"I don't care. He's not going to know our child anyway."
"Ok."
The doctor came back into the room. "I think we're ready Beca. Are you ready?"
"Yes!" Beca said nervously. Chloe stood in the corner while Beca was screaming as she pushed a child out of her. Beca held the tiny baby girl in her arms. Welcome to the world Harper Jade Mitchell-Swanson.
Chloe smiled as she walked over. "May I hold my niece?"
"Of course. She's going to be just like a niece. We're practically sisters."
Chloe cradled Harper in her arms. "You added Swanson on the end to be a dick didn't you?"
"Yep. I can't believe he didn't come." Beca looked sad.
"Hey don't be sad. You have a beautiful daughter, and a best friend who's like a sister."
"Thanks Chlo. The doctor said we can go home tomorrow."
"Ok. I'll stay here with you girls tonight."
Anna walked in the room. "Hey Becs." She looked at Harper. "She's an angel." She also scanned the room. "That dickhead didn't come to see the birth of your child?"
"Nope. He said I didn't want him."
"I'm sorry, Becs."
"It's ok. Harper will be just fine. She has a mommy that loves her, and an Aunt Chloe whom we're living with. And an Aunt Anna whom she'll love."
"That's sweet Becs. I'm gonna get going."
"Ok. Thanks so much for coming."
Anna left, and Chloe put Harper into the crib. The girls fell asleep.
The next morning, they were free to go. It took so much convincing to get Beca into that wheelchair. It was different when she felt absolutely fine. "Beca, the sooner you get in that chair, the sooner I can wheel you out of here and into the car."
"I'm not getting in that thing."
"Well then you're not going home."
"Fine."
Beca sat down in the wheelchair, Harper in her arms. Chloe pushed her to the car and she climbed in.
When the girls got home, Chloe put Harper in the crib in Beca's room, and she and Beca sat in there talking for hours. "Chlo, what was I ever afraid of? She's perfect. I have an amazing support system, and I couldn't be happier"
"Becs, I'm always here for you. We're practically sisters. I couldn't be happier either. I have a perfect almost-niece. And I have a perfect best friend."
Beca pulled her best friend in for a hug. "She's your niece, Chlo. We'll be together all the time."
"How are you doing on the Jesse thing?"
"It still hurts, but it's different now. It hurts me more that Harper won't know her father. I wish there was another way."
"You could always talk to him."
"He doesn't want me, Chlo. He thinks it's the other way around, but it's not."
Harper began to cry. "It's ok baby girl, I'll feed you." Beca got up and picked her daughter up. She unbuttoned her shirt to breastfeed the baby. Chloe turned the other way. "Get over here Beale. Nothing you haven't seen before."
Chloe giggled and brushed some hair cut of Beca's face. "You're an amazing mom."
"Thanks Chlo. You know one day you're going to be telling your kids to say hi to Aunt Beca."
"Nah. I'm going to end up sad and alone."
Beca buttoned her shirt and put Harper back in the crib. "You'll find someone, Chlo. I promise. You're beautiful inside and out. If guys don't realize that, then they're either blind or stupid."
"Thanks Beca."
"Can you take the 3 am feeding? I'm so tired."
"Yeah....wait...what am I supposed to feed her?"
Beca tossed her a bottle. "Here you go." She collapsed on the bed.
"Hey, Bec, I'll just stay in here tonight so I can hear the baby."
"Ok." Beca was so tired, she fell asleep humming the Simple Minds song that made her equally happy and sad.
Harper started crying at 3 am. After Chloe fed her niece, she wouldn't stop crying. "Shhh, Harper, Beca's sleeping."
Harper wouldn't stop crying. Chloe laid down on the bed and placed the baby between her and Beca. She knew she'd be safe between her family. Chloe was happy that she would get to be a big part of Harper's life. She was a little sad that Jesse turned out not to be a part of their lives, but it still made her happy knowing Beca was happy. Happiness meant so much to her.
