When they got home, Beca tucked Harper into bed, and Chloe put on Game of Thrones. Beca worked on mixes, but Chloe fell asleep within 5 minutes, so Beca dragged her into bed. Beca changed the channel and put on Master Chef, but she fell asleep, too.
She was awoken when Jesse knocked on the door loudly. He was clearly drunk, which she couldn't have around Harper. "Jess, come sit down."
Jesse sat down at the kitchen table, and Beca made him a cup of coffee. "Hey, Beca, why is the room spinning?"
"It's not, Jess, now sober up because Harper can't see you like this tomorrow."
"I'm sorry, Beca."
"It's ok. Now go to bed."
"Goodnight Becs."
Jesse went to bed, and when Beca finally got tired enough, she found Jesse sprawled out across the entire bed. She didn't have it in her to wake him, so she crawled into bed with Chloe. It's not like she hadn't done it before, so it was fine, and she knew Chloe would be ok with it, which she was, which Beca found out the next morning. Chloe had gone to work to meet with a client, and Jesse had to meet with a producer, so Beca was left with Harper. They didn't have anything to do, so they decided to go to the park.
Harper seemed to be enjoying the park. Beca had played with her for a little while, but she got tired and her knee was bothering her, so she sat down. "Momma! Look! I can jump off the swings!"
Beca's eyes show up from her book. "Harper, that's dangerous, sweetie."
Harper jumped off the swings. "See mom, I'm just fine."
Beca smiled. "Ok, but be careful."
She watched Harper continue to jump off the swings a bunch of times until the last time she did it. She swung higher that time, and Beca was nervous watching her get higher and higher until she jumped. Since it was higher than before, Harper flew forward and landed somewhat face down. Beca ran towards her little girl who had started to cry. "Dammit, Harper, what did I say?" She asked In a frustrated tone.
Harper sat up, and Beca saw a cut on her forehead. "Momma it hurts," she said, tears rushing down her face.
Beca took a look at the cut. It was pretty deep, and she was really upset. Beca wasn't good with blood, and it wouldn't stop bleeding, even after she took her home and washed it off. She didn't know what to do, so she called Anna.
Anna, can you come over..like now..it's an emergency.
What's wrong? Is your leg ok?
Yeah I'm fine, but Harper fell off the swings at the park, and it won't stop bleeding, and I don't know what to do, and you know how I am with blood.
Take her to urgent care..wait..how long has it been bleeding?
Like 20 minutes.
Yeah take her. I'll meet you over there.
No, it's fine. I'll call Jesse. I'll keep you posted.
Ok. Are you sure?
Yeah we'll be ok. I'll keep you posted.
Ok bye.
Beca hung up the phone and picked Harper up off the couch.
As she was driving, Harper's crying had slowed down, and so had the bleeding. "Momma, where are you taking me?"
"To the doctor, sweetie." Beca turned on the radio and started singing along to Style by Taylor Swift. Music calmed her down, and she tried to focus on something else until she had to call Jesse.
Hey, Jess.
Hey, what's up? You usually don't call me while I'm at work.
We're at urgent care because Harper fell off the swings and cut her forehead.
Oh my gosh I'll be right there.
Ok. I was just letting you know.
Ok see you.
Beca rushed into the urgent care, and she frantically waited in line until she got to the front of the line. "Hi," she said to the lady at the desk. "um my daughter um slipped off the swings and she um cut her forehead and it um won't stop bleeding." Beca mentally punched herself in the face for saying "um" so many times. She was really nervous.
"Ok." Lady smiled. "Just fill out this paperwork, and we'll get you to a doctor as soon as possible.
Beca grabbed the paperwork and worked as hard as she could while trying to calm her daughter. Within five minutes, a doctor came out to take them to a room. He asked a million questions. "What happened? How long has it been bleeding? Were you watching her at the time?"
Beca looked offended. "Of course I was watching her!"
"Ok," the doctor said. "Let's check it out." He cleaned it up as best he could, and it looked really bad. When Harper complained of a bad headache, he decided to do an MRI scan.
Right before it happened, Jesse walked into the room. "Hey, Becs," he said, giving her a quick hug and kiss.
Beca looked at the doctor. "This is Harper's dad."
"Ok, so Harper's going to go into this tube and can you and your husband stand over there?" The doctor asked.
"Boyfriend," Beca corrected the doctor and walked with Jesse to the other side of the room.
Harper went into the tube and came out a minute later. "All done mama?" she asked with a scowl.
"Not quite yet, sweetie." Beca gave a sympathetic smile to her daughter.
The doctor looked at the pictures on his computer and glanced up at Beca. "She has a popped artery in her head."
Beca tried to stay calm. "Oh my God, that's bad. What can you do?"
"We're going to have to repair it. She'll need stitches, and the surgery should take about an hour." the doctor didn't lift his eyes from his computer.
"Like right now?" Beca asked frantically.
"Yes. We'll take her in an ambulance to the hospital, and then they'll do the surgery." the doctor stood up. "I'll have them send an ambulance over. You can ride with her."
Beca was speechless. Jesse stood next to her. "Ok."
The doctor called the ambulance, and they were left sitting in the waiting room until it came and took them to the hospital.
