"You have a sprain," Erin said, handing Beca the X-rays. "And you're lucky, because you were very close to tearing your ACL, and that would have been worse."
"Well what do I have to do?" Beca asked.
Erin handed her an ace bandage and a black brace. "Wrap your leg in the bandage, then put on the brace. You can take those off when you're icing it, and you should be icing it a lot. Come back in 3 weeks, and we'll check it out."
Anna got up to help Beca wrap her knee, which was propped up on a table. Beca winced in pain. "I'm sorry Becs, did that hurt?"
"No, it's fine."
Erin smiled. "I don't want to see any of you here for 3 weeks."
"I think we can handle that," Beca giggled. She hopped off the table and limped across the room. "It's ok to put weight on it right?"
"Yeah, but gradually," Erin called from her desk.
"Thanks Erin. See you."
Beca and Anna walked out of the hospital for the second time that day. Anna smiled for what seemed like the first time in forever. "I'm glad that wasn't as serious as we thought it was."
Beca got into the car. "Yeah, me too. It just feels numb now. How are you feeling though?"
"You know, I think music is good therapy because I feel a lot better. I want to get back into piano. It's really helped, Becs. Thanks for that."
"I'm glad! Do you want to come over tonight and watch a movie? We can have a girls night, and order pizza."
"That would be great! I haven't seen Harper in what feels like forever."
"Two days, Anna. Just 2 days."
Anna laughed. That little girl was like a daughter to her, and Beca knew that. Harper loved both Anna and Chloe, so Beca was glad that she was so close with them. "Isn't Chloe heading back to my place?"
"Oh yeah Ill text her."
Beca pulled out her phone to see a message from Chloe.
Where are you guys?
Long story, but Anna feels better. Come back home. You'll get home before us. Order a pizza. Eryn should be with Harper. Tell her I said thanks. We're having a girls night because Jesse has to work late.
Ok. Bye
Chloe got home a few minutes before Beca and Anna, and she thanked Eryn for watching Harper. Beca limped in behind Anna a few minutes later, and Chloe freaked out. "Oh my god, Beca, what happened?"
Beca put her leg up on the couch. "Oh I got up to get my phone at Anna's and I guess I turned wrong. It's just a sprain, and I'll be ok in three weeks. Can you get me some ice?"
Harper ran into the living room, and her happy go lucky attitude changed when she saw her mom. "Mommy what happened?"
"Oh I just fell and hurt my knee. I'm ok, sweetie."
"Ok Mama."
Harper ran back into her room to play with her dolls. Chloe came out of the kitchen with a bag of ice. "I ordered the pizza. Here's your ice. Do you need anything else?"
"Chlo, I can walk. I'm fine. Go do whatever. Make some cookies."
"Ok, fine."
Chloe went to go bake cookies, and Anna wanted to play with Harper, so Beca was left in the living room watching football. When the pizza came to the door, Chloe didn't hear because she had the mixer on for the cookies, so Beca got up and limped to the door. She was hoping Karl was in a nice mood today. "Oh, hey Karl."
Karl handed her the pizza. "Hi, Beca. What happened?"
"Oh I sprained my knee. I'm ok, though."
"That's good."
"How much for the pizza?"
"Ten dollars."
Beca handed him a ten dollar bill. "Thanks Karl."
"No problem."
Beca closed the door and limped into the kitchen. "Hey, Chlo. Here's the pizza."
"Thanks, now go sit and rest. I'll bring you a piece." Chloe got 4 plates out of the cabinet.
"Chlo, I'm fine. I can walk on it. I'm living and breathing, and I don't care that my knee hurts like a bitch, because I'm ok, and it's not like it's broken. I just wanna relax and have a fun night."
Chloe knew Beca wasn't going to agree with her, so she went along with it. "Anna, Harper, dinners ready."
Anna walked into the kitchen with Harper on her shoulders. "My angel wanted a ride." Anna laughed as she lifted the girl down and took a bite of her pizza.
After dinner, the power went out. "Crap," Beca said in a disappointed voice. "Now we can't watch the movie."
Harper started crying. "Momma it's dark. I can't see you momma, momma where are you?"
Beca picked up her daughter. "I'm here baby girl. It's ok. Hey, Chlo, we don't have any flashlights, and she's not good in the dark. Should we just go to the mall?"
Chloe pulled out her phone to look at movie times. "We're gonna have to. There aren't any movies playing that are ok for a 3 year old. Anna, you wanna come?"
Anna glanced up from her phone. "I have some housework to do. Do you mind if I ditch this one?"
Beca gave a quick hug to Anna. "No problem. We'll probably come over tomorrow."
"Ok. See you."
Harper stayed clung to Beca, and she cried for 5 minutes. "Hey, Chlo. I'm gonna take her to the car. Just grab my purse for me."
When they got outside, Harper calmed down, and Beca stroked the hair out of her face. "It's ok, sweetie. You'll be ok. Shhh, it's ok."
Harper finally spoke, her voice still shaky. "Mama, I don't like the dark."
Beca was almost in tears. "I know sweetie. It's ok. I don't like the dark either."
Chloe climbed into the passenger seat. "Ready to go Becs?"
"Yeah," Beca said as she started the car. She texted Jesse
Hey, the power's out, and Harper was freaking out, so we're going to the mall.
Ok. I'm going to watch the game at the bar with some friends.
Ok. I'll be home when you get back.
Love u
Luv u too
When they got to the mall, Chloe linked hands with Beca. She was one of those people who would always hold hands and hug you from behind, and Beca normally hated that, but with Chloe it was different. She was just used to it, and she knew Chloe was big on the PDA stuff, so she was ok with it. She liked having a friend like that. It made her feel all warm and fuzzy inside, knowing that someone cared so much. Chloe was carrying Harper on the other side of her because the extra weight was too much for Beca's knee. Even though her knee was killing her, she hadn't been in a better mood. "Hey, Chlo, do you have anywhere you want to go, or are we just wandering around aimlessly because there's only so much walking I can take today."
"We can go get dessert at the food court. You can rest your leg for awhile."
"Ok."
Dessert was nice, but then they got a text saying the power was back on, so they went home.
