Through it All

Chapter 27

BG grabs the ticket and pays for everyone's breakfast. They all head outside saying goodbye and giving hugs. The band all makes sure Cheyenne and Ace has their numbers in their phones before getting in the vehicle and heading out. Kolby and Ace are taking about playing ball and trucks. Ace is gonna get a new one and Kolby is telling him some things to ask about. BG walks Cheyenne to her car and realizes that this goodbye is going to be harder than any other time and he's not really sure why he feels that way. She puts her purse in the car and then wraps her arms around BG and hugs him. BG just engulfs her into a hug like it was the last one he would ever get. They stand there for a couple minutes not saying anything, like if they don't say anything they can pretend nothing else exists. Cheyenne admits to herself that this feels safe and like home in BGs hug. She wonders if that makes her a bad person because she knows that without him she wouldn't have been able to handle this past week. He was there for the good memories and then for the awful ones too. BG admits to himself that this moment is special and he doesn't want to break it up. As he pulls away he runs his hands down her arms to take Cheyenne's hands in his and that is when he realizes she isn't wearing her wedding rings. He jerks up to look in her eyes and gives her a questioning look. Cheyenne looks at him and she tells him that she took them off this morning before walking out the door of the hotel room. That she was no longer married and she had to close the door on that life and embrace the life she had been given. If she continued to focus on the past them she would fall into the big black hole of depression and she had 3 kids who needed her. She promised Robert to go on and not curl up and die and remove herself from the world and if she had to look at those rings 24/7 that she wouldn't be able to keep that promise. BG asked her if she was sure she wanted to do that so soon. That it was okay to give herself time to grieve for Robert. Cheyenne told him that if she took more time then she knew she would allow the darkness to overtake her and she couldn't allow that because Ace needed her to be there and help him through the next few years. BG told her there was no right or wrong way and that she had a support system that would come running at a phone call. She grinned and said that she knew that. Ace hollers that he is headed to the house and tells BG that he will call him later. Kolby makes his way to BG and Cheyenne and gives BG a look over Cheyenne's head BGjust gives him a look back. They are having a conversation among themselves with just the looks. BG lets go of Cheyenne's hands and Kolby engulfs her into a hug and picks her up. She laughs and throws her head back telling him to put her down that she is too heavy to pick up. Kolby tells her that she is crazy she doesn't weigh more than a feather. Cheyenne tells Kolby to keep talking to girls like that and he will find one to marry. He goes to shaking his head and saying not me!! BG laughs and tells him that was what he said to that he better watch out. Kolby keeping it light tells them the only way he would get married is if Cheyenne agreed to marry him. They all just laugh. Kolby leans over and whispers in Cheyenne's ear love you and I am only a call away and I can get here quicker than B. She nods and hold him a little tighter. Kolby stands up and asks if when he has to go to Tuscaloosa could she go with him. She told him yeah to let her know when it was. He said he would text her later tonight to see how they were settled. Kolby told BG bye and that he needed to get back to the farm and to give momma love from him. BG gives him a hug and told him thanks bro for coming when I called. I couldn't have done this without you. Kolby gets into his truck and pulls out leaving BG and Cheyenne standing there. Cheyenne leans up on her tip toes and kisses B on the cheek and says until next timeB. BG pulls her to him and kisses the top of her head and tells her that he loves her and he will always be there for her. Cheyenne nods and tells him I love you too and I only hope and pray one day that I can do for you what you have done for me this week. BG gets in his truck and backs out looking in the mirror he sees Cheyenne standing wiping her face. He knows she is crying and it kills him. She waves one last time before getting into her car. BG turns on the radio and of course Sweet Home Alabama comes on, it brings a smile and he just cranks it up louder and puts the pedal down heading home to Amber.
