Chapter 15

Cheyenne gets up and wakes up Ace they get ready to head to the funeral home. A knock at the door startles them. Ace answers it and it was BG asking them if they were ready to go. They all head down to his truck and meet everyone there at the funeral home. They make the final arrangements and head their separate ways until tonight. Cheyenne goes and picks up her check and the checks for the family goes to the bank and then asks Ace if he would like to look at a house with her. Ace said he would love to and they love the house it is a ranch style house with a wrap around porch. She signs the papers and has to wait for closing in 30 days. BG just takes her where she needs to go. They head back home because she has to pick out Roberts clothes and take them to the funeral home. That done she gets what she needs for several days and leaves again. It is just too hard to look at their bed knowing he will never come back.

That night at the funeral home ...
Cheyenne has been greeting people for 2 hours straight and there is no let up in sight when she looks up at the name Cindy being spoken. She can't believe what she sees Roberts ex fiancé has driven from Georgia. She smiles shakes her hand but at the same time is so unnerved that she doesn't know what to say. That is until Cindy leans in and says to Cheyenne he never loved you , it was me that was always on his mind. Cheyenne just stands there with her mouth open not believing what she has just heard. She looks up and finds Nate in the crowd and motions for him to come to her as he is in uniform. He makes his way to the front and asks if she needs anything. Cheyenne responds yeah I need you to carry this trash out she isn't welcome here. Nate says sure thing and takes Cindy by the arm and escorts her out the back door. It has been such a blur of the people who have come through and all the flowers that have been sent. Robert would have been surprised that everyone made such a fuss over him. BG and the band are trying to keep a low profile and so far so good. They have sat in the family rows and that has been a pretty good place for them. Close enough that if Cheyenne needs anything but not drawing attention to themselves. As the crowd starts to thin out Cheyenne is talking and hears a voice that she had hoped she would never hear again. The person is talking to her dad and mom. BG and Kolby immediately stand up because they see the look on her face. They aren't sure what but they know that it is very bad. Nate makes his way to the front to Cheyenne he motions for BG and Kolby to follow him to the front. BG say do you know why she looks like that and Nate says I have a pretty good guess just hold your shit together til we get outside if it is what I think it is or who I think it is. Cheyenne's eyes meets Nates and he gives her a questioning look and she nods her head yes. Sierra looks at her mom and said is that him momma? Cheyenne nods and as he makes his way to stand in front of Cheyenne Nate steps on one side BG on the other and Kolby behind . Tom the one person she could go the rest of her life without seeing. The person she loved with all her heart before Robert, that would be Tom her high school love. The one person who hurt her the most in this world, the one who raped her one night in a drunken rage. She never told anyone her parents didn't know. Robert was the first person she told. Nate figured it out after her reaction to an incident at school. Cheyenne looks like she will pass out. Tom leans down to hug her and she steps back away from him. Nate puts his hand on him and tells him to step back that he isn't welcome here and needs to leave quietly. Tom smirks and asks who's going to make me? Nate said I am. We are going to walk you out and you are going to get in your car and leave and never contact her again. You understand? Tom said yeah right you can't do anything . Nate takes one arm BG takes the other and Kolby follows. Tom hands a piece of paper to Ellie and says give you mom my number we have a lot of catching up to do now that he isn't here to stand in her way. At that moment Cheyenne fainted.
