Through it All

Chapter 49

They walk into church and momma Becky gets up and hugs them and tells them that she is so glad they made it. Cheyenne is talking to momma before church starts about lunch and what they need to do when they get home. Momma stops talking mid sentence causing Cheyenne to look and it was Amber standing at the end of the pew. Cheyenne smiles and says good morning Amber are you doing alright today? BG turns and looks at Cheyenne like she has 2 heads. Amber smiled and said I'm good it's good to see you and BG here today. I know that Ms Becky is happy to have her family with her today. And she turns and sits down a few rows up. Cheyenne looks at BG and says darlin you need to close your mouth your gonna catch flies and they aren't very tasty. Kolby starts shaking with laughter and momma tries to keep from it.

After church they were standing around talking and letting Momma Becky introduce Cheyenne to everyone and BG was getting impatient. He looked at Cheyenne and said I didn't know I was gonna have to share you with the whole dang town. Momma popped him in the back of the head and said Brantley Keith watch your mouth. She knows what is best for you even if you don't. Kolby laughed and momma popped him and told him to behave she raised him better than that. BG looked at her and said momma I don't understand. She told him that she would explain at home.

They all got back to momma Beckys house and while Momma and Cheyenne fixed lunch BG and Kolby cut her grass and fixed her sink in the bathroom. They sit down to a meal of fried chicken, mashed potatoes, Mac and cheese, fresh green beans,tomatoes and cucumbers and corn and momma's homemade biscuits. Momma asks BG to say grace over the food and he did and they start passing around when BG said okay momma you have got to explain to me what was this about at church and then Cheyenne you have got to explain about Amber. I felt like I had stepped into the twilight zone again. Well baby this is your hometown and if Cheyenne had gotten in the truck with you and left without talking after church she would have come across like she felt like she was better than everyone. With the divorce people have been split on who they were siding with you or Amber. When the video came out it pushed some over to Ambers side. I received more than one call about it that Sunday. Momma why didn't you say something ? Well baby I knew that it would all come out in time and it did. People got wind of the gah order and the restraining order and started asking why you did that and I answered with I don't know the specifics but it was to protect Amber from herself. She has been going crazy when she saw the video and text and called when she shouldn't . BG didn't want to hurt her just because she decided to walk away because he wouldn't quit his music career . They would say is that what happened and I would tell them yes but if they didn't believe me that divorce was a public document and they went and looked for themselves. So when people found out the truth they started asking about Cheyenne and I explained how y'all met through make a wish and how the 4 of y'all became good friends and were like family and then explainedRoberts death and how you and here were there for support and had such a close connection that you asked her to sing with you and that was how the video came to be. Then they would ask about a relationship between you two and I told them that it was after Kolby and her kids pointed out that you loved each other that y'all even thought about it and was gonna see what happened. So Cheyenne knew coming from a small town that she would be judged as a home wrecker by some and needed to be friendly and approachable to help you. Am I close girl? Cheyenne smiles and said yeah momma you are right and I know that everyone probably has heard some version of the confrontation that we had Friday night at the store so I had to show them I wasn't a bitch who was coming in thinking I was better than them and showing them up or on the other hand out to use you B to get ahead in the music business or for your money. As for Amber she and I are at an agreement , I didn't take you from her but I wasn't about to let you go when I got the chance to be with you. She understands that she messed up and that's on her. That we can be cordial since I will be in town a good bit or not it was up to her. She chose to be cordial. Not much more than that. When did that happen asked Kolby Cheyenne looked at him and said Friday night. How do you figure that? She sent me a text on my way to B's and apologized and asked me to forgive her that she was hurt that he moved on so fast but wasn't surprised it was me because she knew he already loved me as his friend. But at the same time it was surprising if that made sense. I text her back that I was sorry this hurt her but it was never either of our intentions to hurt her or for us to fall in love. And it was suprising to both of us that my kids and his band had to point it out before we even considered it and that was the day before the video. She wishes us well and knows that we love each other and aren't going anywhere. Momma looked at BG and said what are your intentions toward Cheyenne? Kolby laughed when BG said not you to momma. She looked at him with an I'm waiting son look. He gets up and pulls his shirt up and says does this tell you what my intentions are and shows his momma his new tattoo of Cheyenne's lips and signature. Momma's smiles and says okay but anything else son? BG said Momma I took her to the club last night and introduced her as my ol lady and they accepted her. Son are you really gonna make me ask you point blank? BG grins and says ask me what Momma? I want to know if you plan on marrying her son and making an honest women out of her because she is not the kind of woman to be living in sin. Cheyenne spits out her tea when Momma says all that. Kolby is belly rolling with laughter. BG told his Momma well we haven't talked about that but since I have her lips and signature on my body permanently and she has my initials written in my fingerprints permanently on her body I guess it would be safe to say that somewhere down the line we will probably get married. Kolby said she has your what on her permanently? Cheyenne said I have his initials tattooed in his fingerprints on my body. Kolby asks her if it is where he could see it and BG slaps him on the back of head. Cheyenne grins and says yes you can see it when I have on a swimsuit or pants but not in this dress. Momma looks like she is about to cry and BG asks her what is wrong and she tells him that she was beginning to wonder if he would ever be truly happy and now she knows he is with Cheyenne. Then she tells Cheyenne if only Kolby could find a good girl now I would happy. Kolby said momma you know that isn't me and Cheyenne shoots back oh really Kolbs what about Claire? Kolby drops his head and says I don't want to talk about her. Momma asks who is Claire and I told her my adopted daughter Ellie's roommate. She said the pretty blonde in your pictures and I told her yes that was her. She looked at Kolby and said you better not hurt her son, she's family now. He told his momma that he wasn't going to hurt her but he just didn't want to talk about it okay.
The boys cleaned up since the ladies had cooked. Momma and Cheyenne went to the porch with their drinks and momma asked Cheyenne if she was okay and how did she feel about marriage. Cheyenne smiled at her and told her that when Robert died she never expected to love any man again especially not B. She thought they were happy and was looking forward to being a godmother to Bs kids so it shocked her when it happened and it made her angry because she had just lost Robert and Amber was throwing away the love of a good man who would have done anything for her. So I guess what I am saying is that I love B and I'm willing to see where it goes but I am not going to push him to do something he's not ready for. But if he wanted to marry me I would consider myself the luckiest woman in the world. Momma patted her hand and told her it was gonna be okay. BG and Kolby stepped away from the window where they were listening to the conversation. Kolby asked him what he was thinking and BG just looked at him and said brother I am the luckiest man in the world let me tell you why and BG tells Kolby what happened with his club and how she handled it.
