Through it All

Chapter 8

As Cheyenne walks to the waiting room she is amazed at the amount of people that have gathered. It is standing room only. She looks around and sees that her kids were not there yet. She tries to get everyone's attention but she couldn't with the noise of everyone talking. Nate whistled and everyone looked at that point. Cheyenne told everyone that they could move down to the ICU waiting room. Someone asked about Robert and Cheyenne told them that when her children arrived that she would tell them and then come down and update everyone. She asked that they all continue to pray because it was needed. All the visitors started going to the other waiting room with the exception of Cheyenne and Robert's parents. As Cheyenne makes her way to their parents the doors open and in walk Sierra, Colt, Ellie, Brody , Ace and Rebekah. Cheyenne is grateful because she doesn't think she can get through this if she had to tell it more than once. Cheyenne tells them what the doctor told her that Robert only had a limited amount of time due to his bones and organs had been crushed and that they would have unlimited access to him. Sierra and Ellie start crying and turn to Colt and Brody. Ace just grabs Cheyenne and holds on to her while crying. Robert and Cheyenne's parents are upset and try to comfort their grandchildren but at this point it is not happening. Cheyenne tells them that she has sent everyone to the ICU waiting room and needs to go tell them what the doctor said about Robert and she looks at them and say I have one other thing to tell you, dad has told the doctors that if his heart was to stop or he was to quit breathing that he didn't want any measures taken, Ace cries out no mom! Cheyenne looks at them each one in the eye and says we don't know how long we have left with dad but I want him to be able to go with dignity jus like he has lived his life so I will honor his wishes even though it breaks my heart. I know that we want to keep him but I want him to be honored in death like he lived his life. They all look at Cheyenne and nod their heads. Cheyenne hugs them all and said lets go see if they have your dad ready for y'all to see him.

Nate is amazed by Cheyenne, she is the toughest and strongest person he knows and is so proud to call her his friend.

Cheyenne asks at the ICU if they are ready and the nurse says yes so they all go in and gather around the bed. Robert tells them all he loves them and asks that they honor his wishes, they all agree. Robert then asks to speak to each one separately starting with Sierra. The rest leave and Cheyenne goes to the waiting room and tells everyone what they have found out. She asks that they get a notebook and let everyone sign that way she will know who has been there . As Robert talks to everyone else Cheyenne makes the rounds to try and speak to everyone that has come because until this point she has ignored them.

Cheyenne's POV
As I make the rounds talking to family and friends that have gathered my phone goes off with a tone. That is B's text signal.

BG- Chey what have you found out? I'm on my way and should be there in a couple of hours.

C- The news is not good at all. Unless God performs a miracle we are going to have to say our last goodbyes Robert here on earth.

BG- Why? Do we need to move him to another hospital?

C- No B his lower body has been crushed, bones and internal organs. They are giving him blood and pain meds but there is just too much damage done. Robert has also declined to be resuscitated if his heart stops or he stops breathing. Dr said we may have hours or days. Hurry please Robert wants to see everyone he can to say goodbye but don't be dangerous. The kids are taking turns now going in one by one so he can talk to them. We have been moved to ICU waiting room.

BG- Shit Chey I am so sorry please tell him I'm coming and to hang on for me.

C- I will B! Wait you keep saying I tell me you aren't by yourself. Is Amber okay?

BH- Yes I am by myself and I will tell you when I get there. I'm going to go and see you in a couple hours if there is any change and it looks like I won't get there FaceTime me and I will pull over. That would be better than nothing. Love you girl and stay strong!

C- love you too B! Be safe and I will keep you updated to any changes.

Now back to talking to all the visitors that are here. It is a great feeling knowing that all these people love Robert and our family. I just pray that he can hang on until his sister can get here from Mississippi and B can get here from Georgia. I wonder what is going on with Amber. B sounded upset about that so I'm not sure what is up there.
I look up and see a couple men in suits. I figure it must be some of the plant managers because I have seen them around but don't really know them. They ask for Roberts family and I stand up and tell them I am his wife. They ask can we talk in private I take them down to the chapel and I start to head in and see Nate following. I know he means well but the hovering is getting to me. I stop him at the door and tell him that I have it. Nate tells me he will just wait outside. They introduce themselves as the plant manager and attorney and start by giving their condolences, that is where I stop them. I tell them in no uncertain terms that he is alive and when someone is alive you do not offer condolences. They start to backtrack and just wanted to reassure me that the company was prepared to pay for all the medical bills. I just laugh at them and say you bet your ass you will pay for them and if you have nothing else you can see yourselves out I am going to spend what time I have left with my husband and walk out of the room without looking back. Nate steps in beside me an asks me what that was about and I tell him. It pisses him off too and I tell him not to say anything to the kids yet about it. I look at him and stop and he stops, Nate thank you for being here and not leaving but I know that you have a life and a job and you can see I am not alone now. It's okay to leave I will be fine. Nate looks a me and says I am here for my friend and her family. Anything you need just find me and I will handle it. Thank you Nate I reply.
Now let me go see Robert surely everyone else will have been in already.
