~ preposterous! ~

You sighed forlornly, staring out across the water of a small pond as the company slept soundly a couple yards away.

Rivendell had been beautiful, and it was amazing meeting elves for the first time, but you'd thought they'd have been nicer. A few of the elleths had teased you about your hobbit feet, and how they weren't very feminine, and they teased you about your small height-which was short, even for a hobbit. You tried not to let it get to you, but hearing those things from such beautiful beings made it hurt more.

"[Y/N]?" You heard from behind you. You turned your head to see Bilbo moving to sit next to you.

"Hello, Bilbo."

He gazed at you with his brow furrowed in concern. "Are you alright? Is something bothering you?"

You sighed. "No, it's nothing, Bilbo. I'm fine."

"It doesn't look like it."

You turned your head to look at him, before dropping your gaze to your hands, that were clasped in your lap. "It's just-back in Rivendell, some elleths... they were making fun of me..." And you went on to tell him everything they said.

His face was flushed with anger. "But that's the most absurd thing I've ever heard!"

You stared at Bilbo in surprise. "What do you mean?"

"You're the most amazing, incredible, beautiful being I've ever met." He took your hand in his. "And how anyone could say those things to you is-is preposterous! Blasphemy! Unbelievable!"

You blushed. "Thank you, Bilbo."

He gave your hand a squeeze, hesitating slightly before kissing your cheek and pulling you into a hug. "I'm only saying what's true."
