"I'm right here," her soft voice said, "It's okay."
Steve stood in the empty black room.
White clouds drifted above him as stars winked at him.
He ran towards the voice as it grow dimmer.
"It's okay, Steve." Her voice said, growing softer.
"Y/N!" He called frantically, running.
"Relax, Steve."
In the dark, he could make out a pair of e/c eyes.
His foot pounded against the dark floor as he tried to catch up.
There Y/N stood, wearing simple white clothes, looking like a angel.
Her hair was in its natural way, timeless.
Her face held a sad smile.
"It's okay, Steve, I'm right here."
He let out a sigh of relief, walking closer to her.
But as he walked closer, the bottom of your clothes dimmed. You flickered like a candle.
He froze as you began to fade.
"It's okay, Steve," you smiled sadly, "I'll see you someday."
Then, he was all alone in the dark place, the clouds and stars cried for him as his eyes shot up.
Steve snapped his eyes open, reaching frantically for you.
But all he felt was the same empty space that once held you warm body.
The warm body he once held the person he loved was now in a box,
6ft under.
Steve felt tear prick his eyes as he clutched the pillow you loved.
His vision blurred as he wished.
He wished you where still here,
Still here telling him it's okay,
That you where going to be right there.
That you would give him the butterflies all over again.
That you didn't leave.
That this was a nightmare.
Steve felt his sadness consume him again, him struggling to see the light again.
But his light was gone, so how was he going to see the light that guided him?
Steves chest felt heavy as he tried to swim up to the surface, the surface that held you and his dreams of a family.
That you would leave a message telling him that's it's okay.
That a the HYDRA agent left you alone,
That he was there when you needed him the most.
Those messages that you sent him while he was in countless missions and conferences, asking for him to make some time for you.
Even if it was just a minute.
He wished that he could've spent more time,
That he could've prepared for his world to collapsed.
Everything he did was for you.
Your cracked voice on the phone begged him to come.
But all he said was "Later, darling, I'm in a conference."
He was working his butt off for his dream of starting something big with you.
But in reality, all he needed was to live in the present.
Not the past or the future.
To stop dreaming about things and actually be there for you.
His dreams shattered as he remembered you lifeless body.
The lifeless body when he realized he was too late.
The same lifeless body that haunted him to this day, taunting him that he was too late.
Just like the dance with Peggy,
He was too late.
Your lifeless body that held his hope, his light, and his dreams.
Steve glanced up from the fading perfume filled pillow, out into the city lights which you loved so much.
He felt his heart cracked as he imagined you leaning against the glass pane, staring into the busy lively streets.
If only he knew how much pain you caused him when you left.
If only he knew not to fall deeper into the love spell you cast him under.
If only he was there for you when you fell from your grace,
Straight into a box, under piles of dirt.
Then he wouldn't be dreaming about you, waiting for you, thinking about you.
His dreams that revolved around you.
It's seems silly, but he didn't even know what he was doing as he fell deeper in love with you.
That he was planning all the wasted future and daydreams of you,
Only to wake up, trying to forget the beautiful dream.
