Bruce stared at the numbers on his wrist, the numbers ticking by, causing him to fidget with excitement and anxiety.

He felt like he's been waiting forever, but he wasn't sure if he was ready.

Bruce was just 16, and has his whole life ahead of him. He was still young and didn't want to be tied down to a person. But at the same time, he was ready to spend his dual with someone he loves.

The teacher droned on and on about somethings as students mindlessly scribbled things down or took notes.

Bruce already knew the whole lesson, so he was just thinking about the numbers.

It seemed like a few years later, but the bell rung, releasing the students out to lunch.

Bruce was swarmed by his fake friends, the usual.

Girls threw themselves, hoping that he was their soulmate.

The numbers showed as girls crowd around him, hoping to meet his eyes and become the one.

Because if they are, they would be set for a lifetime.

Everyone at the school would be.

He had all the money he could ever ask for. He is a billionaire after all.

Bruce slid into the seat at the lunch table as girls flock around him and his fake guy friends greeted him.

Yet he still felt alone on his crowd of false friends and plastic Barbie dolls.

It all felt so perfect.

He was in the most highly regarded school in Gotham, surrounded by his rich or smart friends. The school only allowed the best. You had to be rich, or smart. And the usual smart, were the poor.

He sighed inwardly, running his hands through his black hair, his steel cold blue eyes scanning the room.

Getting up, reassuring the girls that he could go to the vending machine, alone. Walking over, a girl stood at the vending machine already.

Her h/c hair spilled from her maroon red beanie to her cream sweater.

Everything about her screamed smart.

Which meant she was probably on the bottom of the social ladder.

Bruce looked over at all the snacks. Trying to decided whether he wanted chips and granola bars, finally deciding on a bag of chips.

The dollar he smoothed out, trying to put it in the slot, but it rejected it.

Bruce tried, again, smoothing out all the dents and folded corners. But the machine rejected him once again.

"You missed one." She said, her voice was calm, like a clear sky before a storm, holding intelligence and wisdom. She pointed at the faint folded corner.

"Thanks." He mumbled in reply as he tried to smooth it out, but it kept going back folded.

"Here," she said, "let me." She grabbed it, their fingers touching. Their touch sent shivers down both of their spines as their eyes met.

Cold blue clashed with warm e/c.

His heart dropped to his feet before coming back up with butterflies as they froze. His mind went blank, forgetting how to speak or do anything for a second.

Her lips fell open to "o" shape. They seemed increasingly more kissable as he tried to form a sentence.

She looked away, casting her eyes to her wrist.

The numbers were disappearing with a f/c. Bruce glanced at his, evaporating in the same way she has.

"So, I guess you're my soulmate." She said, calmly.

"Yeah." Bruce said, breathless. He cleared his throat, before meeting her eyes again. "Bruce Wayne."

"Oh, I know." She said, rolling her eyes a little. "Y/N L/N."

Her fingers went back to the dollar, smoothing out the corners.

"Here, it should work." She said, holding it out.

"Keep it." Bruce replied, not moving but admiring her.

"I don't want anything." She argued, shoving it back into his hand. "Just... I'll see you soon."m

She briskly started walking away.

"Call me!" Bruce called after her retreating figure.

At least she was polite.

But Bruce was determined to make her like him. At least a friend, Bruce was willing to be whatever she needed him to be.

Because that soulmate feeling he doubted before was truly addicting.
