Two 7 year-olds were sitting on the balcony, eating their ice cream and trying to catch the dripping cream. Meeting when they were really young, these two are childhood friends and had a friendship that would probably carry into their adulthood.
"Hey, Y/N." The blue eyed boy said, snapping her out of listening to the radio.
"What, Dick." She said, licking the orange cream.
Dick stared at the girl who ate her ice cream with large eyes. "When we grow up, will you marry me?"
She glanced at him and laughed. "I can't marry someone that's shorter than me." She joked. "Grow taller first."
Dick frowned as he finished off his ice cream. "And when I'm taller than you, then will you marry me?" He asked, again.
"Yeah, sure. When you grow taller." The young girl couldn't imagine the short blue eyed boy growing taller than her ever so she just went along with it.
The boy glanced at her, unsure. "Pinky promise." He demanded.
"Alright." She sighed. "Pinky promise."
Their sticky fingers touched as she giggled. Dick smiled, remembering her promise and keeping in mind to ask his mother how to grow taller later.
"You'll see." He said, confidently puffing out his chest. Then straightening his back, he made a pout. "I'll be taller."

Dick was looking through his old photos and saw the one where him and his girlfriend, at the time best friend, sitting on the deck and eating ice cream as a teenager.
Smiling and remembering her promise, he glanced at the ring he bought the other day sitting on his night stand. Checking his hair again, he straightened out his shirt and jacket as he ran out of the room to start the car.
Tracing his finger across the designs of the ring box, he smiled and waited for his long-time girlfriend.
She wore a simple f/c jacket and a black tank top inside. Her hair was pulled into a pony tail as she slid into the passenger seat.
"Where are we going?" She asked.
"You'll see." He said, mysteriously.
She groaned in response.
After a while of her asking for their destination and him driving and singing badly to the radio, they arrived at their location.
It was on a high hill above Gotham where a blanket laid with candles around it. A couple sandwich crumbs were on plates as Dick mentally kicked himself.
All the animals probably ate the food.
"It's okay." She said, putting away the plates. "I'm not that hungry anyway." She lied.
"Sorry." He said, hating himself, "sorry, I just wanted it all to be perfect."
She shook her head and smiled. "It's fine."
Not fine enough for today. He thought.
"Sorry." He said, again.
She silenced him with a peck on the lips. "Now shut up, we can just talk."
In the corner of his eye, he saw rolling clouds coming their way, signaling a storm.
"I think it's going to rain." She said, following his gaze.
"Today is just great." He grumbled, packing up.
The only finished packing half of the rings up before rain started to pour down on them. The couple were half way to the car when they took shelter under a thick tree. A little wet, he began apologizing profusely.
"S-Sorry, I—" Dick began.
She kissed him as he spoke, cutting off his words. "It's okay, Dick. Things happen, maybe life has a bad mood."
Y/N was so understanding. He wondered how he got so lucky.
"Bad mood or not, remember when we played in the rain when we were younger?" He asked. Smiling at the puddles that rippled water beneath them.
"And every time, we got a cold?" She chuckled at the memory. "And in the summer, we would wish for rain?"
"Do you remember when in the summer, we ate ice cream on the decks of that one place?" He asked.
"Yeah, we always used to get that one crappy ice cream they sold on that one stand." She laughed. "Orange cream?" They were now laughing at the silly old memories of their younger selves.
"Yeah, I remember you making a promise to me when we were 7 I think." He recalled.
"Promise?" She asked. "What promise?"
"The one that if I grow taller," he rested his chin on her head. "That you'll marry me." He grinned.
He could see her face flushed a red against her pale, cold and wet skin.
"I-I did?" She stuttered.
Dick smiled and got on to his knee, placing it in a wet puddle but he didn't care. "Y/N L/N. Will you fulfill your promise on marrying me?" The diamond ring shone in the tiny velvet box.
A large splitting grin cracked on her face as she hugged him and placed a kiss on his cold lips. Her arms wrapped around his neck as his hands looped around her waist as their lips touched.
"Yes, fuck yes." She said, breathlessly as they pulled apart.
He grinned, idiotically as he slipped the delicate ring on to her ring finger.
"I told you, I'd grow taller." He said, smugly as he kissed her forehead.
