Barry raced up the building to meet Y/N. He was excited to see her for the first time in months. She wanted to meet him on the roof of this one building. She said she wanted to talk about something but Barry brushed that off, letting his excitement consume him in happy thoughts.

The wind blew on her hair, giving him a whiff of her scent. He grinned, running towards her.

Her arms seemed small when they wrapped around him. He leaned in to kiss her but she dodged it.

"Barry..." When her voice cracked, that's when he knew something was wrong.

"What's wrong?" He asked, his smile dropping.

"I-I... I wanted to talk to you about something I decided." She didn't meet his gaze when she sucked in a deep breath. "I decided that we should take a break."

"What?" Barry frowned, hoping he heard wrong.

"It's just that I can't do this anymore." Her eyes were glassy. "You being gone... Barry, I can't help but think—"

"You don't trust me?" Barry asked, raising his eyebrows. He thought they were last this stage.

"No, I just can't help but think that you found someone better." Her eyes stared at their intertwined hands. "I just can't do this, I can't wait for you anymore."

"I-I can—"

"And I don't want you to stop what you're doing." She tried to smile through her tears. "I hope we can still be on good terms."

"Y/N... Please, we can work this out." His voice cracked as tears threatened to spill form his eyes.

"I'm sorry, Barry." She blinked away some tears. "I'm going to miss you and I really am sorry."

She turned away, quickly walking to the exit as Barry stared at her. He never thought she would be the one walking away. He still smelled her in the air as he stood there, numb.

Barry still did his job, he still tried to be happy, but he longed to be with someone again. But whenever he tried, Y/N seems to haunt his thoughts. He can't help but compare every person to her.

So when he saw her again a year later, his heart hurt.

Even when the world was falling apart around them, he couldn't help but stare at her. Even as the villain was flying towards her with a spear in his hand.

She stood in the ashes of a building. White powder rested on top of her hair but she still looked perfect. Her beige jacket and f/c shirt were crumpled but still looked fine on her. She met his gaze and he still felt butterflies bubble up in his stomach as he stepped out to her.

But a shriek cut through the air, making him snap his attention to the source.

It was a little girl. She was under under a block of cement that threatened to fall. But the little girl was too busy running to get her doll to notice.

But when the villains touched Y/N, Barry didn't think as he zoomed towards her. Ripping her out of his grasp, Barry rushed her to a safe location. But when he set her down, she glanced up at him in horror. Barry felt dread crawl into his heart as he realized he didn't save the little girl.

"The little girl..." She said, quietly.

"I know..." Barry felt tears run down his face. "I-I killed her-"

"It's o-okay Barry, it would've been me or the girl... O-One of us would die anyway." She tried to calm his, stroking his hair. Her arms were comforting around him.

He sobbed into her chest, mumbling apologies to everyone. His mind wandered to different ways he could've handled the situation.

"Its not y-your fault, Barry." Pushing his hair out of the way, she kissed his forehead. "Barry, you still have people to save, right now is not the time to cry." She cupped his face. "Get up, Barry. Be strong."

"I still love you, you know." He said, quietly, not thinking. Barry stared into her eyes, getting lost.

After a moment of silence and panic, he wondered if he could take back his words.

"I still love you, too." She replied, squeezing him tighter into her arms.
